Link suddenly missing in categorization history!

There was a link in the categorization history that provided access to historical detail.  I used it Friday and as of Tuesday it's missing.  I was told that there was an upgrade?  That link saved me so much time and provided for consistency for categorization.  Does anyone know anything about this?  Has anyone noticed it's missing?  I used it all the time...  I don't even know any workarounds other than manual look ups that will take forever.  See the screenshot attached where it used to be.

I appreciate you for laying out the details of your concern and for attaching a screenshot, @barbara grobicki.

I'll share some insights on how we can get around this issue so you can manage your transactions seamlessly. I recommend logging out and logging back in to your QuickBooks Online (QBO) to refresh it.

If the issue persists, I suggest accessing your account via a private or incognito window. This allows us to determine whether the problem is due to browser caching.

When the browser is full of cache data, it can hinder the views and performance of your account. Using a private window helps us verify the issue as this doesn't store any cache files.

To access a private window, you can refer to these keyboard shortcuts:

  • Ctrl + Shift + N (Google Chrome browser)
  • Ctrl + Shift + P (Mozilla Firefox & Microsoft Edge browsers)
  • Command + Shift + N (Safari browser)

If you’re able to see the link, I’d suggest clearing your regular browser's cache to refresh and optimize your browser. If the issue remains, I recommend using other supported browsers. This way, we can check if this is a browser-specific issue.

Once you're ready, you might want to utilize this article that can help you efficiently match your accounts: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online.

Hi Jason, Thank!  Couple of notes:  I already tried loggin out and in, and I also already tried the Incognito window.  Neither of those worked.  I had not tried a different browser.  I had been using Chrome so tried using MicroSoft Edge - which is a fresh browser as I never use it normally.  Still no dice.  The link is gone.  The person at the Help Desk when I called said this must have been deleted during a QuickBooks Online update that occurred early this week?  I just am shocked that such a useful link would be deleted.  The article doesn't help as this is issue about quickly matching the account AND memo information that has been used in the past (especially if one vendor has charges that go to several accounts).  The memo information is critical as I have to prepare reports for our board of directors - so it needs to match each month for recurring charges.  It was super easy just to access that, confirm and copy that information.  Now I guess I will have to open another window and search for that previous charge?  That would take me forever for these recurring charges.

Hi Divina,

I want to be clear that I reconcile every month.  That is required by our board of directors and I distribute financials monthly.  I'm not sure how the "Transaction Detail" report would help?  Can you be more specific?  I used to breeze through categorizing recurring charges in a few minutes because I used a bank feed.  Using a report to somehow check things seems cumbersome but I'm also not sure how that report would help?  I run those monthly.  The "categorization and match" artcicle just talks about categorization (which you have to do) - but using the categorization history (specifically the categorization history detail - the categorization history link is still there - it's only when you go into that that the link to history is missing) to make sure that everything is aligned is not discussed.  I have twice sent feedback.  I think there was a software update (I only know that because the help desk person said that she thought an update went through)?  I don't know that for sure.  Maybe there is just a glitch that is preventing that link from appearing?

I also am not sure how to check the status of feature requests?  I went in there and didn't see mine anywhere?  And technically, it's not a feature request - it's a critical part of the platform that is no longer working.

I recognize the importance of the categorization history feature when managing your transactions in QuickBooks Online, @barbara grobicki.

Allow me to clarify things out about what you can do to make categorization and matching easier.

It's correct that there was a software update wherein it made the categorization history link unavailable in QuickBooks. In the meantime, you can utilize the Transaction by Detail report. This report shows transactions assigned to a specific category.

Additionally, you can review the status of your feature request through this helpful link: Customer Feedback for QuickBooks Online.
