Ridiculous Rate Increase!

How does Quickbooks think it is okay to increase our subscription by 30%?!! I have been happy overall with Quickbooks but this now has me thinking I need to look elsewhere. No reply will help, just voicing a complaint on the only platform Quickbooks allows feedback.

Thank you for getting in touch about this, davidkeithphoto.

Price changes are necessary to helps us make improvements on the product features. This way, we can deliver the product that best meets your needs.

You can read this article that includes more information about the pricing updates: What you need to know about QuickBooks Online price increases.

The cost of the product can vary depending on which features your business requires. If your paying more with your current subscription, you can switch to a different plan by downgrading your service.

Before doing so, make sure you aren't losing any essential features. Also keep in mind that downgrading removes any discounts on your current plan.

Once you've decided, follow the Downgrade your subscription steps in this article: Upgrade or downgrade your QuickBooks Online subscription.

I'm always here to lend a helping hand. Please don't hesitate to reach back out. Enjoy your weekend!

My point was about the amount of increase not why there is an increase.  I do annual increases as a small business owner on my services.  We all understand the need but my clients would all cry foul if I tried a 30% rate increase and so should the clients of Quickbooks.

@davidkeithphoto

They really believe the market can absorb it. If a user can't afford it, that user is no longer their target market.

I hear your sentiments, David.

I can see the effect of this increase on users. However, this change will enable additional improvements to how we support you.

Check your PM. Consider switching to QB Desktop with a one time license or another accounting app with a lower fee. Contact us to purchase our conversion service.

It's pretty outrageous. With a 30% rate increase you'd think they would ask for consent. But no, they just increase it and your only option is to cancel at that point. My customer satisfaction rating just went from 5 to 1 in one day. This is a very shady business practice and not all what I'd expect from a company dealing with small businesses.

How much is your bill now?

It's now $540/yr. I just downgraded my account to the single user account because I don't use the other features. This way they'll lose $160 instead of gain $110 for this ridiculous move.

I agree! There should be different subscription levels. I’m in the process of starting my own bookkeeping service and I recently purchased 2022 QB Premier Accountant. One of the features I really like is batch entry. Well had I known that I was going to have to pay $550.00 to basically buy a new program every year I would have looked at other options. Intuit customer sales of course did not mention the upcoming price increases. A 3 year subscription would have been better. Now we are forced to subscribe every year and if you don’t pay they shut down the program. I have client now who is still using 2012! I get it inflation is off the charts but honestly this too big of an increase. Looking at other options.

The Essentials plan seems to be what they are promoting.  You have to search hard to find their Simple Start version which will still be $360 per year but it is better than having to pay for the other plans packed full of the features many of us do not need.  I went from purchasing an upgrade every 3-4 years to now paying the $360 every year.  My costs have gone up by nearly 500% (5X) which is insane.  All I want is the basics and in a local desktop app.  I don't need the full cloud use it anywhere options.  I just need it local.  I agree with all that posted here, they didn't bother to check with end users before making this decision.  I also agree with the overnight product rating going from a 5 out of 5 to a 1 out of 5 now because of this REALLY POOR PLANNING BY MANAGEMENT.  They really LOST TOUCH WITH THE CUSTOMERS that helped make them successful.  Now they are just gouging us, it just eats into our profits one little bit at a time.

I just spent an hour helping a user who last year purchased the subscription 2022 Desktop product, at that time we registered it to their email, this year, no evidence of that being registered after the expiration, no option for renewal.  We just had to chat for an hour online with a person to get the 2023 subscription renewed.  Prior to our chat, no product was shown in their portal from 2022.  SO, not only did Intuit raise the price 30% from 2022, but they also failed ot use the crazy price increase when shifting to annual from perpetual in 2022 to facilitate making it easier for my customer to transition into their 2023 subscription.  They had to basically 'start over.'  In 2018, they purchased their Quickbooks Desktop pro for around $280, used it for 3 YEARS, for around $93 a year.  So a 590% increase yearly between 2018 and 2023.  ALL THE CUSTOMER DOES IS PAY BILLS and reconcile their checkbook.  I've recommended that they consider alternate products at th is point.

I am absolutely furious about this increase!  $200 more per year for...

  • Cash flow hub
  • Enhanced computing power (64-bit)
  • Pay vendor bills online
  • Upload bills
  • Receipt management
  • Consolidate invoices into one email
  • Automated payment reminders

A bunch of nonsense that the majority of your customers don't need or use - only to justify grabbing another $200 - a 57% increase in 1 year!  I couldn't imagine hat would happen to my customer base if I increased my rates - in a recession for the most part - 57%.  Bad move, Quickbooks.  I will be finding an alternative and I hope the vast majority of your client base does the same in response to your greediness.

I am a one person business and I have used quickbooks for years. I used to pay 150.00 for a license for 3 years (when I could not stop download the transaction with my bank). I was ok paying this, again I am small business. Now, after a year not only I am required to pay 550.00 per year, but my company file will be locked if I don't pay ( i bought quickbook desktop pro) This is not different that kidnapping or a hacker getting on hold of my company file for a ransom. I contacted customer support, they could not help. I went to office max to get a copy of quicken, so i can find a lower cost solution,  I expent 120.00 and to my surprise, you can not even transfer your company information, transactions, etc from quickbooks to quicken ( no matter how may times I have read the instructions listed at the quickbook website,  on how you can do it). Honestly the company should be ashamed of the way they are doing business, specially small business. Again this is not different than a hacker, getting my information for a ransom. If anyone can help, I will appreciate it.

@jfcuetos1

As I know there is currently not a way to convert data from QB to Quicken. You should clarify this to Quicken Support. Last resort, request a refund for your Quicken license and purchase a new license for QBD 2023 from a partner. You can get $100 as cashback if it matters. T&C apply.

Here Is an update from my original post. For the past 6 days I have trying to get a solution (not just to pay 550.00 a year since I am a one person company. I run to office depot and I purchase Quicken (assuming quickbook desptop is too robust for a single user like me). I learned that you can always bring quicken file to quickbooks but not the other way around. So don't waste 140.00. Since my company file was about to be locked, I create and paid for a "quickbooks online essentials" (I don't do payroll, nor i sent invoices to be paid via credits card, etc) . So I am out of another 150.00. I followed the instructions on how to migrate my company file to quickbooks online, to my surprise, My Chart of accounts, was transferred BUT qhickbooks online did not assigned to the same Chart of accounts so I had over 700 transactions  that I needed to manually assign to each income or expense category. Called intuit multiple and after 2-3 days period, a representative suggested that we "purge" my online company data and the representative was going to help me with the migration. I did what I was asked to do and again I ended with the same results as before. I still on the phone, talking to multiple people , and every single person does not understand the issue I am having. At this point, I have not access to my company file and I feel I have not choice but to pay whatever intuit ask to pay to i can have my finances back. Shame... shame.
