Question

Upgrading from Mac desktop 2019 to whatever is next.

I would prefer continuing on desktop rather than online.  I am forced to use online payroll.  I read some comments here the last few days that sounded like what I needed to make smoother exports, etc.  I unfortunately can't find that same good advice now.  I have used QB for decades but the newer updates seem to be more problematic and I currently do not trust my data - things are missing, my quarterly tax deposit reports seem incorrect, etc.  Any help?

Hi Marilyn48,

Since QuickBooks for Mac does not have a built-in payroll service, you'll need to move to one of our QuickBooks Online Payroll subscriptions. You can still use your QuickBooks Desktop for Mac as your accounting software.

I've added this link for the list of the available payroll services: QuickBooks Payroll

You can also visit our Help Articles page for more resources on managing your employees.

Let me know if you need further assistance exporting your payroll info into QBO. The Community is always here to help.

Thanks for your response but that’s not the problem.  I do use payroll online.  Since it is no longer integrated within QB, I am having trouble now getting my payroll information to export back into QB.  I had an older OS on my computer and QB said that was the problem.  I have now upgraded my OS and need to, apparently, upgrade from QB for Mac 2019.  I prefer to remain with a desktop version rather than online.  When trying to figure out to which QB version to jump to, I came across a thread in the community with someone expressing a very similar problem but with a 2015 version of QB.  There was very good and explicit advice that sounded like it was the exact thing I needed to do once my OS was updated. Very similar problems were expressed. I cannot find that thread now.  My QB is not working smoothly and I do not trust my data.  My quarterly report numbers do not look right.  Some payroll has exported, a whole  bunch has not.  I’m at a loss as to my next step.
