Upgrading from Mac desktop 2019 to whatever is next.

I would prefer continuing on desktop rather than online.  I am forced to use online payroll.  I read some comments here the last few days that sounded like what I needed to make smoother exports, etc.  I unfortunately can't find that same good advice now.  I have used QB for decades but the newer updates seem to be more problematic and I currently do not trust my data - things are missing, my quarterly tax deposit reports seem incorrect, etc.  Any help?

Hi Marilyn48,

Since QuickBooks for Mac does not have a built-in payroll service, you'll need to move to one of our QuickBooks Online Payroll subscriptions. You can still use your QuickBooks Desktop for Mac as your accounting software.

I've added this link for the list of the available payroll services: QuickBooks Payroll

You can also visit our Help Articles page for more resources on managing your employees.

Let me know if you need further assistance exporting your payroll info into QBO. The Community is always here to help.

Thanks for your response but that’s not the problem.  I do use payroll online.  Since it is no longer integrated within QB, I am having trouble now getting my payroll information to export back into QB.  I had an older OS on my computer and QB said that was the problem.  I have now upgraded my OS and need to, apparently, upgrade from QB for Mac 2019.  I prefer to remain with a desktop version rather than online.  When trying to figure out to which QB version to jump to, I came across a thread in the community with someone expressing a very similar problem but with a 2015 version of QB.  There was very good and explicit advice that sounded like it was the exact thing I needed to do once my OS was updated. Very similar problems were expressed. I cannot find that thread now.  My QB is not working smoothly and I do not trust my data.  My quarterly report numbers do not look right.  Some payroll has exported, a whole  bunch has not.  I’m at a loss as to my next step.

I appreciate you returning to the discussion, Marilyn48.

I know this is quite frustrating when we are unable to pull up reports due to missing data. I'm here to point you in the right direction to resolve this matter.

We can go straight to the Help menu to contact our payroll support in QuickBooks Desktop within your company file.

1. Open QuickBooks.

2. Select QuickBooks Desktop Help by going to the Help icon.

3. Choose Contact Us.

4. Type in your issue, then click Continue.

5. Select We’ll contact you for a callback or Message Us to start an instant messaging session.

Feel free to contact them from Monday to Friday from 6 AM to 6 PM Pacific Time for Basic, Enhanced, or Standard Payroll. Anytime, any day for assisted payroll.

You may want to upgrade your payroll subscription to get the latest tax table in QuickBooks, please refer to this article for your reference: Get the latest payroll tax table update.

Reply in this loop if you still have queries, I'll be here to support you in any way I can.

Again, thanks for your response but I have chatted and talked live with QB help for hours.  This has gone on for weeks.   Only on 2 occasions was the person knowledgeable enough to help.  The others would point out the obvious steps I was already way past. Then I would be placed on hold while they got help elsewhere which was not helpful.  On every contact Payroll would say they couldn’t help, I needed to talk to QB support.  I would be transferred and after going through the same lengthy process I would be told QB couldn’t help, I needed Payroll.  This happened 4? times.  Both directions.  I am looking for practical technical information.  This shouldn’t be this complicated.  I’m sure I am not the first person to come up against this.  I have used QB + payroll for decades.  It’s just since online payroll is no longer integrated directly in QB that all my problems began.  It is unworkable such that I do not trust the data.  I am “dead in the water” until this is solved.  What Mac desktop version can I go to that will solve my export issues?

I know you've been contacting our support several times, Marilyn48.

As much as I wanted to take a closer look at your account, I'm unable to do it here for security purposes since this is a public space. Let me re-direct you to our Technical Support Team. This way, they can investigate this issue further. You can follow the steps provided above to reach out to one of our supports.

With all due respect, how will that experience differ from my prior experiences?

I appreciate that.  So I will be contacted or I should call and somehow my account is flagged so I get to the right person?
