Hello QuickBooks Community,

If I have a Bank Statement that is PDF, how do I convert the bank statement into CSV and import into QuickBooks online and QuickBooks Desktop?

Hi,

you can convert PDF bank statements to CSV using Datamolino check out https://www.datamolino.com

Datamolino is primarily used for Purchase Bills data capture and automation. Now it is launching also Bank Statements data capture to help exactly with this use case of converting PDF to CSV bank statement to import into your accounting software.

P.S.: The feature launches in July 2023. Use the chat widget, the support will help you with all your questions.

Tried it unsuccessfully. Pretty frustrating instructions.

Today these are the reliable methods.

  1. PDF to CSV or XLSX converters online
  2. Using a CHATGPT (but only if you are ok with sharing your PDF)
  3. Google Sheets Add-ons

Best way today is to use add-ons that convert pdf bank statement directly inside google sheets. You can get the conversion done without leaving your spreadsheet and also see the extracted output on your active spreadsheet. You can check out the workflow here: https://youtu.be/8QFhjPZhh88

I built a simple tool (https://www.statementsheets.com/) because I had the same problem. QuickBooks can't read PDFs directly. You need to get to CSV first. Most converter tools upload your statements to their servers and charge a monthly subscription, which annoyed me. With StatementSheet, the conversion runs entirely in your browser (it works with Wi-Fi off — you can literally test that), and every statement is re-checked against its own running balance, so an extraction error can't slip through. It's $19 per batch of statements, no subscription, and previewing is free so you can check it handles your bank before paying. If your bank's layout doesn't verify, email me, and I can add it. Hope you find that helpful!
