How do I delete or undo a reconciliation in QuickBooks Online, and in what order?
There isn't a way to delete a reconciliation in QuickBooks Online, but you can undo one, which simply changes each transaction's reconciled status back to unreconciled without deleting any transactions. If you have several to redo, the order matters: undo them from newest to oldest, then redo them from oldest to newest.
Option A: Undo it yourself (no accountant needed)
In standard QuickBooks Online there's no bulk button, so you unreconcile transaction by transaction from the register.
- Go to Settings (gear icon), then Chart of accounts.
- Find the account, then select View register.
- Select a reconciled transaction (shows R) to expand it.
- In the checkmark column, select the box until it's blank.
- Select Save, and repeat for each transaction in the reconciliation.

Option B: Have an accountant undo the whole period
If you work with an accountant on QuickBooks Online Accountant, they can undo an entire reconciliation at once, which is much faster: Undo a client's entire reconciliation in QuickBooks Online Accountant.
Doing several in the right order
- Undo starting with the most recent reconciliation and work backward to the oldest one you need to redo.
- Before redoing, confirm the beginning balance is correct and resolve any differences: Fix issues with your beginning balance for accounts you've reconciled before.
- Redo the reconciliations from oldest to newest: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online.
To prevent this next time
Once a period is reconciled and correct, closing your books helps protect those transactions from accidental changes: Close your books in QuickBooks Online.
If you tell us how many reconciliations you're redoing and which month things were last correct, we can help you map out the order.
