To merge two accounts, you'll need to disconnect their bank connections first, then make sure the duplicate account's Name, Type, and Detail Type match the account you want to keep, and ensure to save your reconciliation report, as this action is permanent.

Here’s how:

  1. Go to All apps, then select Accounting.
  2. Click Bank transactions.
  3. Choose the tile for the bank account.
  4. Select the edit icon, then click Disconnect account.
  5. Select Disconnect to confirm.

Once you're done, follow these steps to match the details and merge accounts:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and select Chart of accounts.
  2. Locate the account you want to keep and note its exact details.
  3. Go back to Chart of accounts and find the duplicate account.
  4. Click Edit in the Action column to exactly match the account you want to keep, and click Save.
  5. Select Save, then select Yes, merge accounts.

Please know if both accounts have an opening balance entry, delete the more recent one before merging to avoid a duplicate opening balance. Here’s how:

  1. Navigate to the Gear icon, then select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Find the account and click Account History.
  3. Locate the duplicate opening balance entry. It will show as Opening Balance Equity as the payee.
  4. Click on it to expand.
  5. Select Delete, then Yes to confirm.
