Hi Emily,

I completely understand how frustrating this situation must be for you. I appreciate the effort you’ve already put into unlinking and reconnecting your account. I know how important it is to get your data flowing again, so let’s take a closer look at what might be causing Error 185

Bank Error 185 occurs when your financial institution requires additional security verification, such as multi-factor authentication (MFA), security questions, or a one-time password (OTP), before QuickBooks can download your transactions.

In some instances, a verification code may work on your bank’s website but fail within QuickBooks. This mismatch is typically caused by syncing or timing issues between the two systems. Ensuring your bank information is fully synchronized with QuickBooks will help resolve this error.

To resolve this, log in to your bank’s website, complete any pending security prompts, then log out. Ensure any changes made at the bank are also updated in QuickBooks Online.

Once you've updated your bank details, follow these steps to ensure the information is synced in QuickBooks:

  1. Go to the Bank transactions page.
  2. Select your bank account.
  3. Click the Pencil icon, then select Edit sign-in info.
  4. Enter your updated bank information.
  5. Hit Save and connect.

Next, update your bank connection:

  1. Choose the Banking transaction page. Click Update.
  2. Follow the prompts to update your bank connection.
  3. Enter the new verification code if prompted. Ensure that you're entering the code within the time limit, as some codes expire quickly.
