Getting error 15270 when updating payroll

Hey there, Icreswell.

Thanks for taking the time to reach out here in the Community. I want to make sure that pesky error doesn't appear so you're able to update payroll.

There are just a few steps to complete that will keep error 15270 from appearing. Here's how:

1. First, you'll need to restart QuickBooks. Click Install Later if the QuickBooks Update Service window appears.

2. Click Help, then Update QuickBooks.

3. Select the Update Now tab. Put a check in the box for Reset Updates, click the Get Updates button, then choose OK to confirm.

4. When the update is finished, the Get Updates button will be active and "Update Complete" will appear.

5. Restart QuickBooks again. If the Update Service window appears again, click Install Now.

6. Choose Employees, then Get Payroll Updates. Make sure Download entire payroll update is selected and click Update.

I continue to receive an error code when trying to update quickbooks. Please advise.

Thanks for reaching out to the Community about error 15270. I'll be happy to help get your QuickBooks updated.

If the steps @MorganB provided above aren't working, you can run a repair.

To repair QuickBooks:

Intuit recommends that you prepare the QuickBooks Desktop installation CD before you begin the repair process. If you purchased QuickBooks through the phone or online, download the installer from the website.

Windows 10, 8/8.1, and 7

Note: Do not be misled by references to the Installation Wizard. It is the Installation Wizard that runs Repair .

Restart your computer to close unnecessary programs interfering with QuickBooks.
Back up your QuickBooks Company file.
Select Start and then Control Panel. (In Windows 8/8.1: From the Start menu, open Search and type Control Panel. From the results, select Control Panel.)
Select Programs and Features. If necessary, choose Uninstall a program.
Note: If you don't see these options, select Programs, then Program Features.
Select QuickBooks in the list of programs and choose Uninstall/Change.
Select Continue, then, Next.
Select Repair then Next. Wait for the Repair to complete.
Choose Finish, then restart your computer if prompted.
Don't forget to download the Latest QuickBooks release and the latest payroll tax table when you open QuickBooks.

Repair Errors

During the repair, you may get an error or a message such as Files in use. If you receive these kinds of messages, follow these steps:

Select Ignore (reboot required), then, OK.
You might have to click Ignore several times. The repair should continue.
If the Ignore button is unavailable, select Close. After the Repair, restart the computer.
