Hey there, scottcbeebe,

Are you working on your 1099s? If so, you need to review which expense account is used when you pay contractors. This is to ensure the amount being reported in box 7 is correct.

If you're already using the correct account, but the amount is incorrect, you need to modify those payments. Just go to the vendor's transaction list, then open and change the amount from there.

Here's how to do it:

  1. Select Expenses from the left navigation bar, then select Vendors.
  2. Locate the vendor and click the name to open the profile.
  3. Go to the Transaction List tab.
  4. Find the payment and click it to open the transaction.
  5. Enter the correct amount, then click Save and close.

Learn more about preparing your 1099s by going through this link: E-file through the 1099 E-File Service  for more details.

On the other hand, if you're referring to the W-2 form, changing the amount in box 7 needs special handling from our phone support. I recommend contacting our QuickBooks Online Payroll Team so they can help correct your employee's forms. They need to review and verify your payroll information in a secure environment.

Let me know if there's anything else you need. I always got your back.

These instructions do not work for Intuit Online Payroll. I've gone to Reports > Contractor Reports > Contractor Payments but there are two issues.

1. Only FOUR of the 2-dozen or so Contractor Payments I made in 2019 are available to view. One of the ones I need to Edit Box 7 for is hidden behind a "Historical Contractor Payments" section, so I can not view it or delete it.

2. The other contractor payment I need to edit, can be viewed and deleted (and I could create a *new* payment backdated to 2019) BUT I can't assign the payment from Box 7 to Box 14 where it is supposed to go.
