To set up Minnesota Earned Sick and Safe Time (ESST), you'll need to create a custom-time off policy for your employee that matches the state's 2024/2025 mandates.
Here's how you can do it:
Navigate to the Payroll icon from your Home dashboard.
Select the Employees menu on the left panel and locate the specific employee.
Go to the Time off section and click Edit.
Under the Paid time off field select Add new paid time off policy to create Minnesota Sick & Safe.
Enter the necessary information such as Hours per worked and Maximum allowed field. For the Hours are accrued field select Per hour worked.
Click Save.
Please know that QuickBooks Online (QBO) uses decimals when entering the "Hours per worked" to ensure employees earn at least the required 1 hour per 30 hours worked, as mandated by law.
Additionally, you can set the cap at 48 hours (the state minimum), or higher limit if your company provides one. However, I still recommend consulting your accountant to ensure compliance with Local laws and to verify that the setup aligns accurately with your business policies.
Lastly, since QuickBooks automatically tracks accruals based on this configuration, you may need to manually adjust an employee's balance if they reach the maximum cap or if there's a carryover from a previous year.
