Problems resending older W2

Hello,

I am  a 20 year plus Quickbooks desktop long time user having a strange issue sending a previous year W-2.

This is something I do from time to time with no issues but today I am getting this strange message.

"Your sesssion has expired due to 30 minutes of inactivity.  For Security reasons, you must exit and reenter the Payroll tax center through QuickBooks."

I have even sent payroll without a issue so not sure why it is not sending the W2.

Thank you in advance!

Good day, @cshaffer1.

There might be a data damage in your company file. This can be the reason why you're unable to send your W-2 in QuickBooks.

To clear the error message, let's run some basic troubleshooting steps. We can start by updating QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) to its latest release. This step can fix some minor data issues in your company file.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Help menu and select Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. From the Update Now tab, click Get Updates to start the download.
  3. When the download finishes, restart QuickBooks.
  4. Once prompted, accept the option to install the new release.

Once done, try sending your W-2 forms to the IRS again.

If you're still unable to send the form, run the Verify and Rebuild Data tools. Verify Data self-identifies the most commonly known data issues within a company file while Rebuild Data self-resolves most data integrity issues that were verified.

Let's also make sure that you're using the newest payroll tax table in QBDT Payroll to stay compliant with paycheck calculations.
