Data Entry - Bank Deposit

I’m entered bank deposits.

As I’m typing in the data for Customer, Account, Etc. - Sometimes when I type in the first few letters (enough to match a unique existing Customer/Account/etc) and then hit “tab” it will automatically fill in the existing Customer from the drop down. Sometimes, with the exact same letters typed, into the exact same field, it will prompt to create new Customer (account/etc.). Slowing down ensures that the program picks up the existing Customer; but the necessary speed doesn’t seem to be entirely consistent.  I’m finding that I am having to slow my typing; watch the field for the drop down; and it’s adding time & frustration to my data entry. Does this happen to anyone else? If the customer exists, and my keystrokes are exactly the same, shouldn’t the resulting autofill be exactly the same too?

I get how frustrating it is when that "Create New" prompt interrupts your typing. This is not a system glitch. It is actually a standard design feature of QuickBooks Online.

Because QBO runs in a browser, typing fast and hitting Tab can make the page jump to the next field before your internet finishes loading the customer list. When that happens, the system thinks you are trying to add a brand-new name.

The best way to fix this without slowing down your typing is to press the Down Arrow key instead of Tab. This instantly selects and locks in the existing customer from the drop-down menu.

Additionally, if you want to speed up your data entry, you can turn on the Pre-fill feature under your Advanced Settings. While it doesn't work directly for Bank Deposits, it will automatically fill in details for many other transactions.

Let me know if you need additional help.
