Question

Desktop to Online

Hi

Has anyone using Desktop Enterprise (Manufacturing and Wholesale) switched to Online?  My main concerns are being able to track stock across multiple warehouses and also being able to track serial #’s.  At one point I was told those features were not available with Online - but am now getting different answers.  I’d like to hear from folks who have actual experiences (good and bad) - and not from a QuickBooks employee please.

Thanks in advance for any advice or stories you can provide -

To the best of my knowledge, neither QB Online nor their latest flagship edition (IES) offers multi-warehouse or assembly features. You would need a third-party manufacturing or inventory management app to access those capabilities. What is prompting you to consider switching away from QB Desktop Enterprise? You would be better off sticking with it, unless you have specific concerns.

I am being told that QB is moving away from Desktop in November of 2027.  Thank you for replying to me - and i agree - I would much rather stay with Desktop - but if it’s correct that Desktop is going away - then I’m worried I wouldn’t have a choice.  Thanks again.

I’ve been hearing that rumor for several months. However, until there is an official announcement, I remain convinced that they will keep Desktop for the next few years, at least until IES is sufficiently mature. For the time being, you might consider renewing your license through a ProAdvisor and obtaining a discount of around 30% to reduce costs.
