Question

Intuit Data Protect

Failed Message “You have exceeded your backup size limit. No files were backed up for the set “Quickbooks Desktop Data:, and no additional files can be backed up until older files have been purged.”

How and where do you go to purge older files?

You can delete old backup files in the Intuit Data Protect app on your computer. You can't recover deleted files, so download any files you want to keep first.

Here's how:

  1. Right-click the Data Protect icon in the system tray (bottom right, green padlock) and select Open Intuit Data Protect.
  2. Press Ctrl+R. This opens the screen for deleting backed-up files.
  3. Wait while it computes the size of each folder. Select the old backup folders you want gone, then select Delete.
  4. Select Yes to confirm, then OK.

Once done, try backing up again.

To avoid hitting Intuit Data Protect's storage limit, which causes that error, you can remove the files you don't need to back up. Here's how:

  1. Right-click the Data Protect icon in the system tray, then select Open Intuit Data Protect.
  2. Select Change Backup Settings.
  3. Uncheck any files and folders you don't need to back up.
  4. Select Continue until you exit Backup Settings.
