QB 2024 for Mac: Template field won't allow for Screen.

Can’t add an image. Tried Mac and Windows, tried PNG, JPEG, and GIF. No joy. The bottom of the screen says “Please wait for your files to be uploaded” and it doesn’t go away until I exit the browser.

Anyway, when editing a template, in the Sales Receipt Fields dialog, the Project field has the Print item enabled but the checkbox for Screen is dimmed. How can I fix this??? Thanks

Please make sure that the attachment you upload does not exceed the 10MB limit, as larger files may take longer to process or fail to upload.

Regarding your Sales Receipt template, could you please share a few more details or a screenshot showing where the Project field, Print Item, or the screen checkbox appears dimmed?

If you are referring to a custom field that is not displaying project options in the sales receipt Additional fields, I recommend checking that those options are properly configured in your settings.

Here's how:

  1. Navigate to Settings and select Custom fields.
  2. Locate the specific field, then click Edit.
  3. Make sure all necessary options are added to the list.
  4. Hit Save to keep the changes.

For more information on managing these settings, please refer to this article: Create and edit custom fields.

If you meant something else, please let us know so we can best assist you.

My mistake: I figured that familiar users would know how to get to the Project field when editing a template, and know that it a default field.

My original attempt at the upload of PNG, JPEG, and GIF was a shot of a small part my own company template, and was only about 70 KB, depending on the format.

To make sure that this was not a custom field, I installed a fresh QuickBooks. To be clear, I don't mean "I made a new company;" what I mean is that I deleted and installed a fresh (and latest) QB2024 application. Then I let QB generate a company file from scratch.

I placed a piece of template editor screenshot on Photobucket.com. Notice the Project field's "screen" option. Dimmed. And a default.

If I uncheck Project then select it again, it will reappear (except in an odd spot) but it still won't enable the screen option.

I figured I would find Project to be a field in a customer record, but it's not. Or maybe the project is an umbrella term (as in Main Street Office Park), and there are many customers you deal with, all working on that same project. (I really feel like it is something in this paragraph.) Then again, I don't see any kind of list or report than even names projects.

Ideas? Thanks.

Intuit, your AI reply is garbage. Why do I think the replies are AI? Because the answers were grammatically correct and functionally wrong.

Also, Intuit, it's really offensive that you place "expert" next to a AI name, when the AI doesn't know squat.

Just so that AI and human readers know, I've been using QuickBooks since around 2001, and after all these years, I just now took a shot at using the Project field. I use customer jobs quite often, I've created cool invoices and sales receipts with the Layout Designer, and I know that I can customize reports (and that answer had absolutely zero to do with my original question).

Answer 1: "Project is also referred to as Job". What that sentence means is that the very same field has two different labels, and Stevie Wonder could see that is wrong. And hey, AI, how silly is that? If QuickBooks was released one month ago, OK, maybe some bad programming put "job" on one page and "project" on another, but I rather think that kind of design problem would have been fixed long ago.

Answer 2: "The Screen checkbox for this field can’t be enabled, as it is intended to appear only in printed sales forms, not during on-screen viewing. That’s why only the Print option is available."

This makes as much sense as biological men competing in biological women's sports. Think about it. Why the hell would Intuit want me to be able to print a field that can't be edited? If it never appears on the screen, then how can it be filled in? And the fact that it is intended to appear on the page, great, but it's always just a blank field.

Even if disabled then re-enabled, it pops up in a weird place, and while it visually looks like something that can be filled in when committed to the template, it still does not appear.

Maybe AI can understand these two questions:

Question 1: If the Project field is offered to me to print, then how do I supply content to it?

Question 2: I've got a feeling Project is hiding somewhere other than the customer information screen. Where is it?

I completely understand your frustration, and it's entirely fair to expect consistency between what you see on your screen and what prints on your forms.

To begin, you can supply the Project field by setting up a job first and then assigning it to your transaction. The area pulls its content from whatever job name you assign to the transaction. This is why you can't type directly within the print template designer layout because it only serves as a dynamic merge field.

Secondly, projects are not hidden in a separate module. Instead, you can find them inside the Customer Center as hierarchical sub-entries, and the program uses a colon (:) to represent a change in hierarchical levels.

Here's how to set it up:

  1. Open the Customer Center and locate the customer you want.
  2. Right-click the customer's name or click the New Customer & Job dropdown menu.
  3. Pick the Add Job option, then enter a name for your project.
  4. Click OK to save it.

For instance, if you added a job called Kitchen underneath the customer John Cruz, it will appear in your customer list as: Cruz, John: Kitchen. When you select that job on an invoice, the program reads the text after the colon, recognizes it as the project/job, and populates the project field on your template.

If you add another job to an existing customer, you can then choose different jobs for that same customer. Whichever you select, the program will read and then populate the project on your pre-printed template.

Please let me know if you have further questions.
