Question

Transaction Import Formats

Our bank was recently taken over by another bank.  The old bank provided OFX data files for import into QB.  The new bank provides QFX and QIF files for import.  Which of the new format will import properly into QB?

Neither QFX nor QIF will import properly into QuickBooks Desktop on its own. To bring your new bank's transactions in, use a third-party application from the Intuit Marketplace that can handle QIF files, since QuickBooks Desktop Web Connect only works with .QBO files.

Here's how to get started:

  1. Go to the Intuit Marketplace and search for an app that supports importing QIF files into QuickBooks Desktop. You can type QIF in the search bar, then press Enter to see related converter tools.
  2. Review the app's details to make sure it works with QuickBooks Desktop, then follow the app's instructions to install it.
  3. Download the QIF file from your new bank's website, then use the app to import it into your company file.
