How do I change the final invoice amount on a progress if it turns out to be more than was originally estimated?

Thanks!

Hello @jnet1,

Thanks for writing here.

You can edit the amount in the due field.

And save the invoice as usual.

NB: You may receive a popup like "Cancel" or "Go over" choose Go over.

For any sort of bookkeeping assistance check my bio.

Hello @jnet1,

It's good to see you here in the Community! I can show you how to change the final invoice amount in QuickBooks Online.

When you go over the total amount, your estimate gets automatically closed. I agree with the user's suggestion to edit the progress invoice and correct the amount.

Here are the detailed steps and screenshots for your visual guide:

  1. On the left navigation bar, select Sales.
  2. Go to the Customers tab.
  3. Click the customer's name.
  4. Open the invoice.
  5. Edit the amount.
  6. Hit Save and close.
  7. Review your transactions.

Aside from the premade progress invoicing template QuickBooks creates, you can also create a new one. You can visit this article to learn more about the process in QuickBooks: Set up and send progress invoices in QuickBooks Online.

Please don't hesitate to get back if you need further assistance managing the estimate or progress invoice. We'll keep an eye on your thread in this public space. Take care.

What do I do if the amount on a line is less hours than quoted?  I changed it, and it shows a less amount by the line item, but is not recalculating the total to reflect that.

Thanks!
