Classes & Subclasses Reporting

I have several subclasses set up in QBO.  Is there anyway to have the parent show the totals of all it's subclasses in reports? (E.g., the budget overview report.)  If not, what is the point of even having the parent class display on the report if all it shows are blanks and zeros???

Let me share what data are reported while using classes in QuickBooks, SunshineTim.

 

While you're unable to show the totals of all subclasses in the Budget Overview report, you can run a different report for your budgets. Here's how:

 

  1. Go to Settings ⚙ and select Budgeting.
  2. Find the class budget you want to check.
  3. Select the small arrow ▼ next to Edit, and then Run Budgets vs. Actuals report.

 

This report compares your actual income and expenses to your budgeted amounts.

 

In addition to this, using the Locations and Classes features allows you to capture information to analyze which part of your business is running efficiently and which area needs improving.

 

By using the budgeting feature you can review the job costs by either locations or classes. This allows you to view how close you came to your actual job costing. Check out this link t learn more about this: Set budget targets for each class.

In Quickbooks Desktop, if we run a P/L by Class for example, it will show all classes, and also any subclasses next to the left of their parent class. You have the option to hit a small (-) minus sign on the left of the 1st subclass under that parent class and that will minimize all subclasses related to that parent class, but keep the showing the grand sum totals for all subclasses in the parent class column even after minimizing the subclasses. 

This option is available in Quickbooks Desktop, but not in Quickbooks Online. Can we get that option made available? It really makes the helpfulness of subclasses shoot through the roof! Without this option, subclasses are almost worthless because of how convoluted and reports customized by Class become.

I appreciate you noticing the reporting differences between QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) and QuickBooks Online (QBO) targets and sources, @joshua-shockley.

 

Your interest is important to us. While the functionality you're looking for in QBO is unavailable, I suggest submitting feedback to our product developers. Knowing our developers consider these changes in future updates, please know that it also depends on the number of customers requesting it.

 

Here's how:

  1. Login to QBO.
  2. Click the Gear icon on the top right.
  3. Select Feedback.
  4. Type your reporting suggestion.
  5. Hit Next to submit.

 

In addition, you'll want to consider RishBr's suggestion to use their application and able to check if you can run this report. You can also visit our QuickBooks Online Apps store to check for other compatible apps that integrate with our system.
