Question

Delete Job Type

Hi there,

We want to make our reports more concise by deleting existing Job Types from our Job Type List.

However, we have information coded under the categories we want to delete. What happens to the data if you delete the Job Type? Is there a way to make inactive instead of deleting?

Thank you,

Jenna

Thanks for reaching out, Jenna.

To begin with, if you delete your Job Type, QuickBooks will prompt you with a message indicating that the job cannot be deleted if it has a balance or is linked to at least one transaction. Also, any data coded under the deleted Job Type will lose its classification, and the connection between the customer and the job type will be unlinked.

Regarding your second concern, yes, you can make the job type inactive instead of deleting it. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Lists menu and select Customer & Vendor Profile Lists.
  2. Select Job Type List and locate the Job Type you want to make inactive.
  3. Right-click the Job Type and select Make Job Type Inactive.
  4. Click OK to save your changes.

We’re always here to help you if you have any other concerns.
