Filtering General Ledger Report

When filtering only specific GL accounts (COGS, expense & other expense) for general ledger the report includes all of the accounts with no activity for the time period.  How do I filter report to only show GL accounts with activity?

Previous "accountant" created a 100s of unnecessary GL accounts which I have made inactive but when looking at prior periods my csv. export of the GL for 2018 is 4,818 rows long lol.  Thanks in advance!

Hi @boss429,

Welcome to the Community. I'll walk you through the steps on how you can filter a General Ledger report in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

Here's how:

  1. Click the Reports menu.
  2. Highlight Accountant & Taxes
  3. Select General Ledger.
  4. Press Customize Report.
  5. Under the Display tab, hit the Advanced button.
  6. Tick In Use under the Include section.
  7. Hit OK, then OK.

Your General Ledger report will now show only active transactions. For additional details, I recommend you view these articles:

Let me know if you have other questions with custom reports in QBDT. I'll answer them for you.
