You got me here to help you add billable hours in QuickBooks Online, tgirard22.
The Billable feature is only available in QuickBooks Online Plus and Advanced version. Also, adding billable hours through the mobile app is not an option. However, you can add billable hours using a web browser as a workaround.
Here's how:
Click the (+)New button.
Select Invoice.
Select the customer.
Under Add to Invoice, select the Billable expense, then click Add.
Click Save and close.
If you're referring to adding billable time, you can follow these steps:
Click on Sales from the left navigation menu.
Go to the Invoices tab.
Choose the invoice you'd like to add the billable time on to.
On the right-hand side, you'll see an arrow, click on this to expand the list of open timesheets, billable expenses, or estimates.
Click Add on the timesheet you want to add to the invoice.
Click Save and Close.

How do we escalate this? It's been YEARS that QBO has failed to do this, and as a business traveller, the whole point of a mobile app is expense and time entry (cuz none of the other data in the mobile app is ever actually correct). I know it's likely political and Intuit wants to drive business to other apps, but this should be crucial functionality for most mobile users that need to bill time and expenses to clients while on the move. Nobody wants to login to their PC and redo something they could have done on the go!
I know how beneficial it is to have the ability to create billable entries using the QuickBooks Online (QBO) mobile app. However, the option is only available if you access your account via a web browser.
You can read this article for more information about the available features of the QBO mobile app: Compare mobile app features.
As a workaround, you can use your mobile device to log in to your QBO account via a web browser. Then, add the billable transactions there.
While there's no exact time frame for when this feature will be implemented, I recommend sending feedback to our product developers. This way, they can further review this specific feature and consider adding it to future updates. Here's how:
In your QBO account, navigate to the Gear icon.
Next, select the Feedback option.
From there, enter the details of your product comments, suggestions, and requests.
The suggested workaround of accessing QuickBooks Online through a web browser on a mobile device is unfortunately not a practical or reliable solution.
Accessing QuickBooks Online through mobile browsers such as Chrome and Safari remains problematic, even when switching between the “Request Mobile Site” and “Request Desktop Site” options. The interface presents significant functionality and navigation issues, making it unnecessarily difficult to use effectively.
This is particularly frustrating given that entering billable time and expenses while away from a computer should be a basic and essential function of any modern cloud accounting platform.
If QuickBooks does not support this functionality through its mobile app, users should at least be able to access and use the full functionality of the platform through a mobile web browser.
The fact that neither option provides a practical solution suggests there are fundamental gaps in functionality or usability defects that require attention.
These issues should not simply be dismissed as feature requests or product limitations. They represent basic usability requirements that directly affect productivity and the ability to manage client billing efficiently.
Given how long users have been raising these concerns, Intuit should provide a clear response confirming whether these issues have been formally escalated to the product development team, what action is being taken to address them, and whether there is an anticipated timeframe for resolution.
Simply directing users to submit further feature requests is not an adequate response to longstanding functionality and usability issues, particularly where the suggested workaround is itself unreliable or impractical.
These are fundamental expectations of a modern accounting platform, and users should reasonably expect them to be addressed rather than continually having to find ways to work around them.
