Inventory Assembly

QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) has a report that will give you that information. All you need to do is to run the Sales by Item Summary report. Then, filter it to All assembly items or All inventory and assembly items. You can also export this report to Excel.

To pull up the report, here's how:

1. In QBDT, go to the  Reports from the top
2. In the drop-down, choose Sales, then select Sales by Item Summary Report.
3. Click the Customize button.
4. In the Display tab, select the appropriate reporting date from the REPORT DATE RANGE section.
5. Proceed to the Filters tab, then select Item in the FILTER menu.
6. Pick All assembly items or All inventory and assembly items.
7. Hit OK to apply the filters.

To export the report, just click the Excel option at the top and choose Create New Worksheet in the drop-down.

I think what you are looking for is an Exploded View, which shows each assembly, along with all of the components in that assembly exploded down as many levels as exist in your company file.  A third party program, called Auto Build Assemblies, creates this Exploded View in an Excel spreadsheet.  It helps you see the big picture.

I know exactly what you are looking for. 

You need to export an IFF report. 

You must be in single user mode with admin privileges to export this report. 

It is under file>Export. 

Choose the one that says item. 

Once you export it will not allow you to open. 

You need to open a blank excel document and drag your exported file over to the blank doc.

Scroll through this report, you will see your assembly items. The format is not great but it gives you something to work with. It sure is a lot faster than clicking through every single assembly and writing it down. 

Make sure you save this excel doc as a excel document and not a QB document. 

I would love it if the quickbooks team would put together a formal SOP for this but until then you can reply to this comment if you have any questions.
