Question

Modern View

Please someone tell me how to get out of this black hole that is modern view. My P & L will not sort correctly. I want it sorted to match my chart of accounts. You would not think that would be a big ask since I would assume probably 90% of QBO customers would want the same. I do not want to redo all of my financials and reports that I send out. Our budget and everything else is sorted by our chart of account numbers and QBO refuses to be normal and allow the same. Is this a way to get people to upgrade to some other version? I have QBO Online Plus. Someone give me some good news and tell me that there is way around this.

Hi there, Christy.

I understand you’d like to sort your Profit and Loss report to match your Chart of Accounts. Currently, the Modern View does not support custom sorting or numerical order. It is designed to prioritize a fixed alphabetical sort by account name, which overrides the specific arrangement set in your COA.

Since the option to switch back to the Classic View is not possible, I recommend sending a feature request to our Product Development Team. This way, they can evaluate your suggestion and consider it for future program updates. Here’s how:

  1. In your Profit and Loss report, click Give feedback beside Learn more.
  2. Please request the option to switch back to Classic View and the ability to customize sorting within that specific report.
  3. Once done, click Next to submit your response.

So you are saying that QB decided that they don't care how a customer wants to sort their reports for their financials and just did the most illogical way they could think of? In what world would you create reports that a paying customer cannot sort the way they want? I am not sure what "account name" it sorts by because there is no rhyme or reason to the way it is sorting my expense accounts. Clearly, the numbers make no difference, but it's not sorting by account name either. It's just basically doing whatever it wants, which does not line up with the reports we have been using and templates we have used in our organization for more than 5 years. My accounts are being sorted as follows: dues and memberships, professional fees, auto, admin, computer software and hardware, etc. Tell me how that is sorted by account name??? What pattern is that following????

I assume someone who never uses the software is making these decisions because this was probably one of the worst decisions you could have ever made. It would not have been hard to just leave the option for classic view but you can't leave well enough alone.

I agree. The Modern View is awful and they need to allow the Classic View as an option. The Modern View is incomprehensible. E=MC2 is easier to understand.  They have destroyed a great product and it explains why their stock is tanking. I hope someone in product development is listening to all the complaints.
