Greetings Jack!

If your profit margin/percent isn’t showing, it’s usually a report customization issue.

Quick steps in QuickBooks Online:

  1. Open Profit and Loss.
  2. Switch to Classic view (top of the report). Margins are easier to add there.
  3. Click Customize.
  4. In Rows/Columns, check “% of Income.”
  5. Run report.

That will display each income account, COGS, and expenses as a percent of total income, so you can see gross and net profit margins at a glance. I also recommend saving this as a custom report (e.g., “P&L – % of Income Summary”) for reuse.

If you’re in the Modern view and prefer to stay there, open Profit and Loss > Customize > look for the option to show percent of income > apply.

Extra tips:
• Make sure the report basis (Cash vs Accrual) matches how you want to analyze margins.
• Confirm the date range is correct.
• If you need item-level margins, run “Sales by Product/Service” and add the % column there.
