We use the QBO app to snap all our receipts and invoices. Then I review them all in the web version to adjust any GST differences, and check them over. Many expenses get coded to the right accounts, but our food purchases don't. We run a restaurant and the bulk of our receipts/bills are food purchases, which need to be coded COST OF GOODS - FOOD. They alway come up MEALS AND ENTERTAINMENT (an expense), and I have to fix them, even when I set the correct account in the supplier info. Is there any way to fix this? Thank you.
Hi Shelleroo,
Welcome to Community! QuickBooks Online Receipts feature is a dynamic way to upload your bills and expenses while on-the-go. Ensuring the transactions are categorized accurately is key, in keeping your accounts accurate. I'd be glad to assist!
When you purchase items for your business, they only affect the Cost of Goods Sold, when you sell the items on your sales receipts and invoices. However, since your transactions are coming up as 'Meals and Entertainment', there's a possibility that Bank Rules have been set up for easy categorization. To ensure the items are recorded accurately, the best course of action would be to speak with an accounting professional. If you don't have an accountant, we can help you locate a ProAdvisor in your local area.
If you have any other questions, please feel free to reach back out. We'd be happy to help!
We do have an accountant who knows QBO. I'll run this by her and see what she says. I'll post if we can't figure it out. Thank you!
