Quickbooks Desktop Pro 2016

Okay - So I have a brand new PC and have installed all software which I previously had with no problems.....EXCEPT QUICKBOOKS !

So I have paid for and legally own the Desktop Pro 2016 software and should be allowed to use it. However, it will not for the life of me register my software despite having all browsers (IE, Chrome and Edge). I have also tried the Quickbooks Tool Hub. Support is impossible to get hold of. All I need is to be able to activate my product, seriously you would think I was asking for the safe number for the bank of England!

Any tips would be so gratefully appreciated.

Thanks

Jas

QBD 2016 is outdated and doesn't support Win 10 or 11. You can still purchase the one time license for QBD 2020 UK to upgrade your version if required.

Congratulations on your brand new computer, @Karmakards.

I'll share some information about installing QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2016 on your new computer.

As mentioned by Fiat Lux - ASIA, your QuickBooks Desktop version is already outdated and doesn't support Windows 10 or 11. That's why you're unable to install or activate the product on your new PC.

You can consider Fiat Lux - ASIA's suggestion to upgrade your version. However, please know that we're discontinuing the QuickBooks Desktop product in the UK. For more information, you can check out this article: QuickBooks Desktop is being discontinued. This will also help you move your data to QuickBooks Online or download your data to move out of QBDT.

If you consider going with QuickBooks Online, you can check this article to help you decide: Is QuickBooks Online right for me and my business?

Our Community forum is always open to help you again if you have further questions about this. I'll be standing by to your response.

Hi - I am not sure I can accept that statement as fact. I have been running my Quickbooks on Windows 10 for a very long time with no problems. So basically you now want to squeeze a nice little monthly fee out of customers. So will I get a refund on the software I purchased ? I mean, if I have spent money (Does not matter when) on purchasing the official product then surely it is MY product to use and should remain updated. So do I get a refund ? Also even if I did switch to online. How the heck do I open my current company file to be able to continue entering my accounts which I do on a daily basis ? I have read on here that even purchasing the latest version of Desktop software, people have had activation issues. How is that explained. Why would I spend more money ? If I am going to buy a car and someone tells me that in a few years I cannot use that car when it is a few years old I would not buy it so in effect customers like myself have been conned whilst you have raked in thousands of pounds of software sales which you are now making unuseable. Absolutely shocking. NOT HAPPY

@Karmakards

You should contact Support to ask the activation code. Imho, you can't compare a license as an intangible product to a real product (i.e. a car). We never owned any software license and the developers reserve the right not to support outdated licenses.

I don`t need the activation code, I already have it from when I purchased the software ! The problem I now have is that I plugged in my old pc again - WHICH RUNS WINDOWS 10 - and opened up Quickbooks - WITHOUT ANY ISSUES). It will not let me export my account to an online account. It is all up to date.

Also I cannot import my backup Qbb file to the online account either and so I have had to print out reports from throughout the year and I now have to enter them all manually online, Wow......thanks Quickbooks for making tax so difficult (Unlike your ads that say you make it easy).

So you need to convert your data from QB Desktop UK to QB Online UK, correct?

https://quickbooks.grsm.io/UK

Afaik they have been improving the converter tool and are expected to introduce an enhanced converter tool within the next month. For the time being, you can only convert data with a third-party tool or purchase a third-party conversion service.

Hello there, @Karmakards.

It seems you're having issues migrating your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) company file to QuickBooks Online (QBO). Currently, we're working on a new service to help make your move from QBDT to QBO as smooth as possible. Thus, we aren’t able to help you transfer your data from QBDT to QBO until we launch the new migration service.

In the meantime, you can follow Fiat Lux - ASIA's suggestion in using a third-party app that can help convert your data. Or you can use the open balance method to manually transfer your data from QBDT to QBO.

I'm adding this article for more information: Why can’t I move my data from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online?

I'll also add this resource once you successfully converted your data: Post conversion checks for getting started with QuickBooks Online. This will help you get started with QBO.

Let me know if you run into further issues. I want to make sure you're taken care of.

I agree 100%. I also have the same issue. If i own it why cant i use it anytime i want. Accountants need to wise up. I don't need to change my software every 3  years. I am running quickbooks 2000 What i have done is continue to use the computers with windows XP. no internet access, no need to be upgraded. no security issues as well. I am able to still produce my clients financials. (JUST PRINT)

(you can still get machines with windows 2000/XP)

If you are using a newer Windows OS, you can run the trial version of QB Desktop 2020 or 2021 for good.

I likewise have a perfectly good version of Quickbooks 2014 Pro that works on Windows 11. I am a Microsoft insider and can confirm there are no issues. I find it impossible to 'register' or contact Quickbooks to obtain a 'Validation' code. They lie and give a key that wont work or they lie and say they will be back with a validation number in 7 days. I am now reporting the company to UK Trading Standards as they are most certainly 'acting unfairly'.

@NH18

They have the right to refuse to provide the activation code. You can use the trial version if needed.

Can I buy this same licence to register QBD 2014 Pro?

This not about 'support'. The software has been given a 'clock' that explodes and stops you using the software. What are my options to continue to use QBD 2014 Pro without going online? Can I buy a licencxe to use my 2014?

QB Desktop UK version has discontinued. You may find a used license with the activation code in the marketplace. Another option, you can contact @Fiat Lux - ASIA and they may have another option to consider.

Hi there, @NH18.

Let me share info about the United Kingdom (UK) QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) product.

QBDT UK is now discontinued because of the recent changes to accounting and tax regulations. This includes all versions of QuickBooks Desktop Pro, Premier, and Enterprise. Moreover, QuickBooks Desktop is not compliant with the Making Tax Digital (MTD) solution.

If you wish to continue using QBDT, you can purchase from a retailer and not with QuickBooks. On the other hand, you can move to QuickBooks Online (QBO)  subscription.

For more info, you can read this article: QuickBooks Desktop discontinuation support.

Additionally, here's an article to guide you in using QBO: Get Started with QuickBooks Online.

Leave a comment below if you have additional questions about QBDT subscriptions. I'll be willing to lend a hand. Keep safe.
