Using QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2018 on Windows 7
I have a > 20Mb/s internet connection
When I try to create a new bank feed for Fifth Third bank, I get a "Please Wait..." spinning dial and am unable to quit or exit.
1. Banking -> Bank Feeds -> Set Up Bank Feed for an Account
2. All open QuickBooks windows will be closed temporarily to set up Bank Feeds services. Do you want to continue? -> Yes
3. Step 1. Enter your bank's name: select "Fifth Third Bank - NEW"
4. Watch the "Please Wait..." dialog for more than an hour.
Clicking on the "X" in the upper right corner of the Bank Feed Setup window gives me a dialog box stating "A live connection with the Bank is active. Please wait until the operation is complete."
The only way to exit QuickBooks is to use Windows task manager and "end task".
If I select any banks other than Fifth Third Bank, I get the instructions for "How to manually import your transactions".
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Have you called the bank?
I had a small bank out west update their system and they had a different name to look up in QuickBooks to use with the new system. I was looking right around the time of the change and the old name was there as well and I had selected the old name.
Hello there, @jdorner.
Welcome to the Community. I'm here to help you set up your Fifth Third bank account on your QuickBooks Desktop.
Let's start with updating your QuickBooks to the latest release to make sure it has the latest program updates. Once done, you can go ahead and start setting up the bank feed by repeating the steps that you've tried above. For more information about this process, please refer to this article: Get started with Bank Feeds for QuickBooks Desktop.
On the other hand, if the issue persists after trying these steps, I'd suggest reaching out to our Customer Care Team. They have the necessary tool, to check on your account and verify on what may be causing the issue.

I get an error message from QuickBooks when I try to download my FifthThird Bank transactions. I spent several hours with QuickBooks support trying to resolve this issue. QuickBooks support (levels 1 and 2) said my problem is with Fifth Third Bank and Fifth Third Bank says my problem is with QuickBooks. I am extremely frustrated as a 20+ year customer of QuickBooks that I cannot get this issue resolved.
Hello there, @poshchicago.
Thank you for posting the Community. Allow me to help you get past this error so you can download your bank transactions into QuickBooks.
To ensure that I'm on the same page so that I can better help you, may I know what error message are you getting when trying to download the transactions from the FifthThird Bank.? It can help me check if we have a related reported issue similar to yours.
In the meantime, let's try some basic troubleshooting steps to get this resolved.
To start, let's try to update your bank account manually in QuickBooks Online. It will help refresh the connections between the bank's website and QuickBooks.
Here's how:
If you get the same result, let's verify if you can log in to your bank's website through the URL that it has provided for online banking. Make sure you're using the same URL in QuickBooks Online.
Here's how:
Once you verify that you can connect to your bank's online website, try to update from the Bank Feed again. If the issue persists, I recommend following the additional solutions found in the article below. Please go directly to steps 3 and 4.
If you get the same result, feel free to reach out to our Phone Support. They have the tools to determine what's causing the issue and assist you further.
Here's how you can reach them:
Please let me know how these steps work out for you. I want to ensure you're taken care of. Have a good one!
ADDED: Interesting... The Fifth Third Bank sounded familiar, but the system presented your last message to me as New and none of the other responses were visible. So my below response yesterday I thought was to a new messages.
Can you give us all the details of any Error Codes you've seen and what you've tried so far. Someone may recognize the issue as one they've had before.
And we're in the Desktop section, so to confirm, you are using QB Desktop and not Online? Which version of QBD?
Is Fifth Third Bank the only Bank Feed you're using or do you have others that are working okay?
Assuming QB Support confirmed you were on the latest release of your software. If not, go to Help; Update and run the Updates. QBs may restart after the updates, but even if it doesn't ask, go ahead and close and reopen.
Thanks for reaching out. I don't recall the error code but it was a QuickBooks popup window that said my password was entered incorrectly when I tried to connect via "Bank Feeds". I did not enter my password incorrectly as I was able to access Fifth Third Bank on Google Chrome and I was able to deactivate and reactivate Fifth Third Bank Online Access through Quickbooks with my password. I went through this process on my own and with QB support (level 1 and 2) dozens of times over a three hour period. QuickBooks support tried various work arounds and other trouble shooting steps but was unable to resolve the problem and declared it was an issue with the bank. Fifth Third Bank support said if I was able to log onto my account then there was nothing further on their end that they could do to assist and that the problem was a QuickBooks issue. I've reached a dead end. I will follow the steps you provided but I am not very hopeful as I had a similar problem with my American Express and QuickBooks a few months ago and QuickBooks Data Services had to repair my data file to correct the online access issue with AmEx.
I just posted a more detailed account of my problem in this thread. I am using the most current version of QuickBooks Desk Top. I have three online banking accounts: Amex is working, Chase works as always with Web Connect, Fifth Third doesn't work.
The Bank Feed issue with the Fifth Third has been escalated, poshchicago.
Other QuickBooks Desktop users have reported similar cases when trying to download transactions from the Fifth Third bank. Our engineers are now working to find what's causing this and to come up with a permanent fix.
While there's no workaround yet, please keep in touch with this thread. I'll be sure to post any new updates here once a resolution is available.
I appreciate your patience on this. Please let me know if you need anything else.
Thanks for letting me know that this issue has been escalated. Hopefully it will be resolved soon as I lost a days work due to this issue. I'm very reliant on QB to run my business quickly and efficiently. Please let me know when the issue is resolved. Thanks again for keeping me updated!
I have 5 (out of the 83 business I take care of) that use 5/3 and none of them will download. I couldn't get anyone from customer service to help. If I am not the account holder then they will not help in any way. So I went on Facebook and sent them a message. I got a response 10 minutes later with a different phone number and the poor guy that had to deal with me was as helpful as he could be but alas, there is nothing he could do because 5/3 is stuck in the 20th century.
