Hello there, MooreBRS.

The Error 403 Access Forbidden is caused by incorrect Local Area Network (LAN) settings when accessing a web page.

This error can be fix by removing the specified proxy from the Internet Options. I'd be glad to walk you through  by following the steps below:

  1. From the Windows Task Bar, select the Start menu.
  2. Select Control Panel and choose Settings.
  3. Double click Internet Options.
  4. On the Connections tab, select the LAN Settings button.
  5. Uncheck the checkbox under the Proxy server section.
  6. Click OK.

You can have this article handy for future reference: Error 403 Access Forbidden or Access Denied.

Let me know if you have other questions or if you need more help. I'm always here to assist you.

I think the issue is that your version of QuickBooks is old.  Try running QuickBooks->Check for Updates.  If your version is prior to 2016 it is no longer supported and that could be the cause. The fix for that is to buy a newer version.

The url for payroll has changed over the years and the security used has changed as well.  It maybe possible to manually navigate to the Intuit Online Payroll site in the built in web browser you use to access payroll but some people have had difficulty doing that.  Its better to update to the newer version of QB.

Hi, @suzieharts.

Thanks for trying out the steps given by my colleague.

Have you performed the solution shared by @IntuitBrooks?  Updating QuickBooks to its latest release will usually resolve issues like this.

To update QuickBooks Mac Desktop, follow the steps below:
1.    Go to the QuickBooks Desktop menu and select Check for QuickBooks Updates.
2.    If a newer version of QuickBooks Desktop is available, click Install Update.
3.    When prompted, click Install and Relaunch. After the update, QuickBooks Desktop for Mac will automatically open.

For more information, you may refer to this article: Update QuickBooks Mac Desktop.

Now, try accessing payroll within QuickBooks. If you continue to get the same result, I suggest getting in touch with the Technical Support Team for further assistance. Here’s how:
1.    Go to https://help.quickbooks.intuit.com/en_US/contact.
2.    Select a topic twice.
3.    Scroll down and click the green Get Phone Number button to get their contact information.

In the meantime, please log in to your payroll account using the built-in browser in your computer.

That's it. Please let me know how the call goes. If you need anything else, leave a comment below. I’m more than happy to help. Thanks for dropping by and take care!

Hello! I have updated to the latest update. I called the Tech Line. She told me to clear my cache and cookies which I did. I still get error 403. She gave me a new url address. I entered it and my own payroll info popped up. I still don't know how to get it back to www.macpayroll.com. Also, was this a personal url she gave me? I didn't even have to log on. There was a bit of a barrier in understanding with the tech help, although she was very nice. I did get a recorded message when I called that stated they were having trouble with folks logging on and the engineers were working on it. So, there you go!

Thank you for your help. (The link you provided is for Windows, not a mac.)

However, the url you suggested (payroll4mac.com) allowed me to get on the payroll site. I have updated QB. The previous url I have been using that was given to me by Tech Support a couple months ago has quit working as of this morning (www.iop.intuit.com). In May, I will be updating again. Hopefully that will fix the problem for good. Have a good day!

Good day all,

I'm new to the Payroll system and am also having issues logging in.  However, unlike the original poster I don't get an error message at all.  The log in screen just pops right back up as if I never entered my password at all.  Any suggestions or ideas? Thank you.

Sounds like the workaround enables users to access their payroll via a browser like Safari. But they still need access form within QuickBooks Mac. When you connect from within QuickBooks Mac it is possible for QuickBooks Mac and Intuit Online Payroll to transfer information. When you do it from a browser I don't think that is possible. The transfer of information is important to keeping your books up to date.
