Welcome to the Community, hlund.
To better understand your concern, could you please clarify the issue you encountered when setting up your OT tracking? Have you noticed any error messages or unexpected behaviors? Any additional details you can add would be greatly appreciated.
In the meantime, let's use the QuickBooks Tool Hub to run some troubleshooting steps. This tool is designed to help resolve common system issues efficiently.
You can follow the steps below:
If you don't see the icon on your desktop, you can try using the Windows search function to locate the program.

Yes. I am trying to process payroll and the software aborts the application..
This needs to be fixed ASAP as I have many payrolls to process on Monday,
We do not need boilerplate Quickbooks help. I keep getting aborted out of Quickbooks when trying to process payroll. I need a workaround or fix by Monday as I have payrolls to process by Monday because of the holiday week.
I have tried what you said and it does not work.
Please go to your tech department and have them try to run payroll in a file and they will see what the issue is.
Your comments section will blow up with everyone having an issue on Monday. I was able to process payrolls earlier today so it is this OT tracking update that is causing the issue.
Thank you for reaching out and letting us know about challenges you're facing, Madeleine. I understand your frustration and how stressful this situation must be, especially with payroll deadlines fast approaching, Madeleine34608.
Issues like this happens due to a corrupted hard drive, damaged program files, issues with your QuickBooks Desktop installation or even a problem with your Windows operating system. Since you've already tried the troubleshooting steps provided by my colleague @JaneDave_I without success, let's proceed to additional steps that will fix the issue.
One effective solution is to run the QuickBooks Install Diagnostic tool from the QuickBooks Tool Hub. This tool helps automatically detect and repair errors related to Microsoft components the QuickBooks relies on.
Here's how:
If the problem continues, rename the QBWUSER.ini file. This will erase the list of your previously opened company files. Therefore, you need to re-open your company file manually.
To rename the file:
If the program opens after renaming either QBWUSER.ini or EntitlementDataStore.ecml, attempt to open a sample company file.
If the sample company file opens but your own file does not, try copying your company file to a different location (preferably a local folder rather than a network location) and open it from there. If this works, the issue may be related to a damaged folder or incorrect folder permissions.
If you still can’t access your company file, your company file may be damaged. In this case, restore an earlier backup of the file and try opening it again.
If the sample company file doesn’t open or QuickBooks still won’t start, the QuickBooks installation itself may be damaged and will need to be repaired or reinstalled.
If you need further assistance or guidance while running the tool, feel free to contact us. We'll be more than happy to help you.
We are having the same issue as described below. You answer the questionaire, I have tried both YES and NO and it takes you to a finish button and it boots you out of Quickbooks completely. We are clicking on create Schedule Payroll when this questionaire pops up.

Thank you SO much for posting this! Switching to Single User worked for me too!
Thanks soooooo much for posting about the single-user mode---worked for me as well!!!
Finally switching to single user mode worked. Tried to Chat with QB about the issue and after waiting one hour the Chat closed on me. We use QB in a remote environment, RightWorks, and cannot download the QuickBooks Tool Hub.
Switching to single user mode worked for me too!! thank you. I processed payroll in single user mode. Then when you go back to multiuser mode for next payroll is will work. thank goodness!
I switched to single user mode and it worked- THANK YOU!!! Once you process payroll in single user mode, you can process your next payroll in multiuser, if wanted. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING!!!!
I am having the same problem. Were you able to get yours fixed?
I am having the same issue so it has to be a quickbooks error causing this issue.
Thank you for posting this, Switching to Single user mode worked for me as well!!
I am sooo glad you posted your remedy! QB Support was of no help and wasted about 2 hours of my days trying to get a hold of someone on the phone and the chat option sent me to a link that was back to the main support page.
Yes. It errors out and I cant get past it to run my payroll.
I am having the same problem. I do not believe we all have corrupted hard drives.
How do you switch to single user mode?
Yes. Keeps aborting and kicking me off of QB with an error code. Payroll has to be done tomorrow.
Go to "File" then select "Switch to Single User Mode"
