I am getting this error code when I try to open a  version 14 file in version 17 (Desktop Enterprise Solutions 17.0).  Is there a specific conversion process I need to follow?

Hello, jholding33.

The initial step you can follow is to rename the.ND and.TLG files. These are the files responsible to allow QuickBooks on accessing a company file. When these files are damaged, you’ll get the error code 6000-832 when opening the file.

  1. Locate and open the folder that contains your company file.
  2. Look for the files that have the same name as your company file but with .ND and .TLG extensions.
  3. Right-click each files and select rename. Add the word OLD at the end of each file name. Ex: company_file.qbw.nd.OLD

Try to run QuickBooks again and open the company file. If you continue to have the error code, I’d recommend following the solution 2 and rest of the succeeding solutions in this article: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/community/Getting-Started/Resolve-Error-6000-when-opening-a-company-fi....

Thanks for joining the conversation, mohoosier.

We've made some improvements to our articles and archived the old one. That's the reason why the link is no longer available.

Before you proceed, please start by updating QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release. This will help you download the changes, improvements, and fixes that were made to QuickBooks.

Let me show you how:

  1. Select Help at the top menu bar, then choose Update QuickBooks.
  2. Choose Update Now at the top, then check the box next to Reset Update.
  3. Click Get Updates (check the screenshot below).

Next, download and use the QuickBooks File Doctor: Fix your company file or network.

Lastly, check out this updated article and choose the situation that suits you: Error -6000, -83.

That should do it. I'd like to make sure that you're able to resolve this concern, so please let me know how it goes by posting a comment below. Best regards.

When I follow the link, it tells me that the information is no longer available, so how do I resolve the issue.  I have been using earlier versions for 20 years, so I am not happy to have to deal with not being able to import my company data into the new system.

Hello there, @N_

The link that you opened is an archived article since we've made some improvements to our resource links. That's why it's no longer available.

Importing your company data into the new system helps you get back to your business you valued the most. Rest assured I've got the steps you'll need to resolve the error.

The first solution is to update the program to the latest release. You can refer to the steps provided by PreciousB above.

Second, download and install the QuickBooks Tools Hub. This helps fix common errors, such as -6000, -832. You'll have to close the program before performing the steps below.

  1. Close the software.
  2. Download the QuickBooks Tools Hub file. Then, either save it to your Downloads folder or your Windows desktop.
  3. Open the file you downloaded (QuickBooksToolsHub.exe).
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to install. Agree to the terms and conditions.
  5. Double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to open the tools hub when the installation is complete.
  6. Select Program Problems in the QuickBooks Tools Hub
  7. Choose Quick Fix my Program.

Then, you'll have to run the QuickBooks File Doctor. Let me guide you how.

  1. Select the Company File Issues tab from the tools hub.
  2. Choose Run QuickBooks File Doctor
  3. Select your company file from the drop-down menu. If you don’t see your file, click Browse and search to locate your file.
  4. Click Check your file (middle option only) and then choose Continue.
  5. Enter your QuickBooks admin password.
  6. Click Next.

For detailed steps, check out this article: Fix Company File and Network Issues with QuickBooks File Doctor

The error can happen on both local and network setup. If the two solutions above don't work, you can proceed with the other steps specific to your situation through this article: Resolve Error -6000, When Opening A Company File.

Additionally, here's the updated link you'll have to open so you can further troubleshoot the issue: How To Fix Error 6000,-83. This website provides you the scenarios when you got the error so please perform the steps on your specific situation.

I'm here anytime you have other concerns. Have a good day, @N_
