We've currently moved from QuickBooks Enterprise to NetSuite at the beginning of the year, and our current QuickBooks instance is cloud based with Right Networks. We're looking to move it in house. It's current function is historical data, so it's infrequently accessed. Currently only 5 users have access. My guess is 1 - 2 (most at one time) people at a time would be accessing the system occasionally to retrieve historical information for analysis.
Can the QuickBooks server and the Remote desktop Session Host be collapsed to the same single server? I would be hosting this in Azure - so any recommendations on sizing would be appreciated as well. I'm not looking for record breaking performance, just something that is tolerable.
You don't need Azure. You can run the trial version of QB Desktop Enterprise on any local computer individually to access your historical data for good.
Thank you for providing thorough details regarding your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) concern, @mwalketx320.
Yes, you can make the QuickBooks Enterprise server and the Remote Desktop Session Host on the same server similar to the peer-to-peer hosting method. However, the Azure application is unavailable as an Intuit-authorized hosting provider.
You can check this article to see the available Intuit-authorized hosting providers: Hosting providers authorized by Intuit.
Since you're transitioning to an in-house setup, you don't need to rely on cloud hosting. You can install QuickBooks Desktop in multi-user mode on a physical server in your office. This way, you can access QuickBooks simultaneously and share your company files on the same server.
