Hello, @sevenwithfaith.

Most of the time, error 400 means that the server is unable to process the request being sent due to an issue that is perceived by the server (corrupted). If you're trying to connect your bank, we can perform some steps to isolate the problem. First, log in to your bank's website to check if you're getting the same error. If the issue persists, the error may be coming from your bank. You may reach out to them to investigate this further.

On the other hand, you can try manually updating your bank account to refresh the connection between QuickBooks and your financial institution.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Banking tab.
  2. Select the blue tile at the top for the bank account you want to update.
  3. Click the Update button. If you see a message about additional authentication, follow the on-screen instructions. Not all banks require this, but some do for added peace of mind.

I'm also adding this article for your reference about fixing banking errors in QuickBooks Online.

Level 10
April 27, 2021

I know the importance of completing your new employee's W-4 information in QuickBooks Online (QBO), @ehwison. That's why I'm here to guide you on the actions you can take to fix the error and keep your payroll account updated.

There are times that the browser is full of frequently accessed pages, thus causing some unusual responses to the system. Let's boosts the background process of your browser and isolate the error by performing some troubleshooting steps.

You can start by pulling up your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account using a private browser (incognito). Here's how:

  • Press Ctrl Shift (Google Chrome)
  • Ctrl Shift (Firefox)
  • Control Option (Safari)

Once signed in, go to the Payroll menu's Employees tab and add the new employee's W-4 info (Please see the attached screenshot below for your reference. If you're able to do so without getting an error, return to your default browser and clear its cache. This will refresh the system and remove older data that causes viewing and performances issue. However, if this matter continues, I'd recommend using other supported browsers.

Additionally, there are new changes to the Federal W-4. If you wish to know more about this, I'd recommend checking out this article: What’s changing with the Federal W-4?. It also answers the most frequently asked questions about it and guides you on how to print one for your employee.

In the meantime, I'm also adding this article to further guide you in managing your employees and payroll account in QBO: QuickBooks Help Articles. It includes topics about editing payroll, its benefits, and subscription management, to name a few. You can click the + More topics button to view other selections.

Please keep me posted on how it goes. If you have other concerns about adding employee's W-4 information in QBO, I'm just around to help. Take care always.
