Question

Unable to create e-invoice with "Pay Now" link. I'm not having an issue sending the invoice to Outlook.

Running Pro 2015.  I am trying to email an e-invoice and I am unable to.  I keep getting the error "Server Connection Error.  Something went wrong. Try again to send an e-invoice.  Alternatively, you can choose to send a regular invoice without the "Pay Now" Link. <Send Regular Invoice> <Try Again>".  I started getting this error on an old computer so I moved my installation to a new computer, was able to send one e-invoice then started getting the error again.  I am able to send a regular invoice to email just fine.  Thank you for the help!

Hello efarmer,

Thanks for reaching out to us here in Community.

If you are wondering why you keep on getting this error, you can try to update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release.

Since you're running QuickBooks 2015, you need to be at least on release 6 or higher to let the customer pay online. You can click Help> Update QuickBooks and install any available updates Quickbooks 2016 has the ability to e-invoice from R1 and up.

When creating the invoice, you need to make sure to enable it for online payment. This can be done in the preferences as well under the Payments option.

You can check out this article for more information: “View and Pay Invoice” button missing when emailing e-invoices from QuickBooks 2015 and 2016?

Feel free to leave a comment if you need anything else.

I have Pro 2016 and I am updated, but just started receiving this error message today, so I need a different fix...it shows that my customer can pay online using: Bank Transfer, but when I try to email it doesn't work

Server Connection Error - Something went wrong. Try again to send an e-Invoice. Alternatively, you can choose to send a regular invoice without the "Pay Now" Link. I had this same issue and after a lot of trial and error, figured out that it was because my client had a prior merchant account that was replaced with a new merchant account. The invoices that were created while the prior merchant account was active and linked to the QB database would yield the Server Connection Error message while the invoices that were subsequently created after the new and current merchant account was linked to the QB database would not yield that error. The solution was to go back and delete and recreate the invoices that were created under the prior account (can duplicate invoices and delete originals). The recreated invoices were able to send out without the error. Sure wish the error would have been a little more helpful in figuring out the true issue we had.

Thank you for posting this! I'm on week 3 of troubleshooting our payments account. Thought I had it solved (permissions issues) and then we started getting the same message as you. We had to create and link a new Merchant ID during the troubleshooting process. Could not figure out why it was popping up. You just saved me hours of troubleshooting, thank you!

I have the same issue and I have Quickbooks Premier Accountant 2022.  I found out that Windows 11 and Quickbooks 2022 do not play well together.  Along with allot of other issues this is just one that started.
