Hello,
I am currently using QuickBooks Desktop (QBD) version 24.0. I access QBD from home via VPN. My IT person is recommending me that it is best not to access QBD via VPN and is saying that accessing QBD via VPN will slow down the performance and may corrupt the QBD file. Do you agree? Thanks!
Alan
VPN or a remote desktop app?
VPN
Which VPN tool? Microsoft RDP or else?
Thanks for responding to my post. The VPN that I am using is Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client VPN.

The IT personnel's recommendation regarding the use of a Virtual Private Network (VPN) with QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) is indeed correct, @AlanTH. The information below can provide you with further details.
VPNs connect computers over long distances via the Internet using an encrypted tunnel. However, using a VPN with QBDT is not recommended as it can impact the performance and functionality, particularly the speed and file integrity.
Additionally, there are specific types of networks that are better suited for use with QBDT. It is advisable to consult your IT team for configuration guidance to ensure optimal performance.
We're here to assist with any questions or clarifications you may have about setting up your QBDT network. Feel free to reach out to us in the Community by replying below.
I can understand your IT concerns. As long as your VPN connection is stable, you'll be fine. Be sure to run the Verify/Rebuild Data utility regularly (e.g. once a month) to ensure your company file is in good condition.
