QuickBooks Pro Plus Desktop using VPN

My company is currently using QuickBooks Pro Plus Desktop in the Right Networks remote desktop environment, so that I, as operations, can use access QB in California where the company is located, and the accountant in Texas can also access QB remotely.

The annual charges for the Right Networks Cloud service are higher than the QB Pro Plus License itself,  we are thinking if there's a way for both myself and the accountant to access QB and work on the same company file at different locations, without using the remote desktop options. VPN might be an option but I did some research and some people don't recommend VPN due to the security and connectivity issue.

Any other suggestions is welcome. Thank you

Hello there, @OpsNir. Let me share a few insights about cloud hosting and the options for both you and your accountant to access QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) and work on the same company file.

QuickBooks with cloud access helps boost productivity, enhance collaboration, and lets your team work from anywhere. However, other options aside from cloud hosting, such as Right Networks, to use QBDT and work on the same company file at different locations are currently unavailable. Then, your research is correct that using a Virtual Private Network (VPN) isn't recommended for security reasons.

There are certain types of networks you can use to run QBDT. For the complete list of recommended (LAN and Terminal Services) and not recommended networks with their brief description, please see this article: Recommended networks for QuickBooks.

Also, you may want to check out this article as your reference to answer the most commonly asked questions about Right Networks hosting: What is Right Networks hosting?.

Please keep me posted if there's anything else you need or concerns about using Right Networks hosting and managing your company files in QBDT. I'm always around to help. Take care, and I wish you continued success, @OpsNir.

Hello Rea_M,

What do you mean by "Right Networks to use QBDT and work on the same company file at different locations are unavailable"?

That's what we are currently using, we purchased the license with Intuit and then purchased the cloud package with Right Networks.

Thank you

QuickBooks Pro Plus Desktop using VPN

Hi there, OpsNir.

I appreciate you for coming back to the thread and ask more clarification about the information shared above. With this, I'll be sharing additional details to ensure that using a hosting program is accurate. That way, you can both access QuickBooks and work on the same company file.

The details mentioned by my colleague mean that only authorized third-party hosting providers are allowed by Intuit to host QuickBooks Desktop. With this, a diffrent hosting program isn't permitted to use with our program to ensure that your QuickBooks is secure, anywhere and anytime.

Furthermore, rest assured that with Intuit Hosting Program, you can run your QuickBooks Desktop and store your data files on a service provider's servers. Then, makes it easy to work with your team.

You can open each article below to see further details Right Networks works in QuickBooks Desktop.

Additionally, there's also an option to set up a multi-user network to access your company files from other computers. However, turning on hosting is necessary for the process.

Lastly, you may refer to this article to view details on how you can remove the network error message: What to do when a network issue error has occurred.

Post here again if you need further clarification about the hosting program. I'll be right here to help you with your data or any other QuickBooks-related tasks, OpsNir. Have a nice day!

@OpsNir

If you only need one user to access the company file in turns, you should explore this option

https://qbox.coraltreetech.com/?associate_code=FL-AF34

As an additional option, if you are still using QB Desktop 2021 Pro, you can still purchase the one time license to lower your expense.

Hi Fiat Lux - ASIA,

Thank you for sharing the information.

I wonder if Box.com can be used for sharing the company file, as Box is the file-sharing tool our company is currently using.

Abd yes, we only have two users, and accessing Quickbooks in turns should not be an issue. I will look into Qbox but wanted to know if Box is also an option.

Thank you!

Afaik, Box.com is not an option for QB Desktop. It also doesn't support QB Online natively.
