QuickBooks for Mac creates a DMG file when you back up your company data. This file includes a complete copy of your company file, along with any additional documents you’ve saved in QuickBooks, such as forms or PDFs. The DMG format ensures that all relevant information is securely stored and can be easily restored when needed.
If you're ready, you can continue with the restoration. However, the backup file will overwrite any existing data in your current company file with the data from the backup. This includes all transactions, settings, and records up to the point the backup was made.
That said, if there have been any updates or transactions in your current company file since you transferred everything from the old Mac, those changes will be lost if you proceed with the restoration.
I'll be adding this page for more details and complete instruction on how to back up your QuickBooks Desktop for Mac company file.

Hello, depending on if your old Mac is on the same network as your new Mac, you could connect to it and open the file that way. Or, you could copy the file across your network to the new Mac and open it there. If the systems are not on the same network, you could copy the file via a USB stick from one system to the other system. And a last option if you want or have an iCloud account, you could upload it to that and then download to your newer Mac. Those are the easiest methods to move the file from one system to another.

To move QuickBooks to a new computer, initially you'll need to install the program on your new computer you're planning to use. Next, you'll have to register it.
Afterwards, you can create a backup file of the company file you want to move to your new computer.
Here's how:
When you're finished, the name of your backup will be the QuickBooks filename with the date and time your backup was completed. It can be viewed in Finder.
Next, you'll need to locate the file on your computer and use a device or service to transfer it to the new computer. Once you've moved your file onto the new device, you'll be able to open it inside of your version of QuickBooks you previously installed and registered on the computer.
You'll also be able to find many detailed resources about using QuickBooks for Mac in our help article archives.

Thanks for your quick reply! I do have the most recent dmg file from my old Mac in Dropbox so that I can open it with Quickbooks on my new Mac. The only concern I have is that I've had to do all my business since January of this year on the old Mac as there was not a way to open my Desktop 2021 version on my new Mac because it was running Sonoma. However, yesterday I got a fix from Intuit and was able to finally open Quickbooks on my new Mac. Problem is, my company on the new Mac only shows the data up through last December because that is what existed when I transferred everything from the old Mac to the new Mac.
So I saved the dmg file yesterday morning but when I attempt to open that file I get this message which makes me unsure if this is what I should do:
Opening a Disk Image backup file will restore:"Ascension Leadership.qb2021" to a regular company file. Do you want to continue?
Do you have any thoughts on this?
