Most likely their old bookkeeper only knows Wave. Unless you want to learn Wave, you'll have to ask them to convert the data to QBO. They can purchase a third-party conversion service if necessary.

You can inform them that running reports is easy and financial reports in QuickBooks Online (QBO) give them tons of great info about their business. Also, dozens of reports tell them about different aspects of their business. Some focus on sales, others focus on your spending, and some look at parts of each.
