Resolve socket and IP response errors when processing credit cards

Socket and IP response errors are usually caused by internet security issues or damaged installation during an update. Follow the steps below to resolve issues related to IP response.

  • Sign in to Merchant Service Center and try to process a payment. If it goes through online, perform the steps below to get back to processing cards in Point of Sale.
  • Check if the issue is resolved after performing each solution.

Solution 1: Sign out of your Payments Account in Point of Sale on the server, then sign back in

Note: Make sure that you have your merchant account credentials before signing out.

  1. From the File menu, choose Setup Interview.
  2. Select the Payments tab.
  3. Choose Sign Out.
  4. Hit Sign In to sign back in.

Solution 2: Clean-up and verify company data

Follow the steps on Using the Clean Up Company Data utility and Running Verify Data to be guided accordingly.

Solution 3: Clear cache and cookies of Internet Explorer

  1. On the upper right, select the gear icon. Choose Safety, then select Delete browsing history.
  2. Check the boxes for Temporary Internet Files, Cookies, and Form Data.
    Note: Make sure to uncheck Preserve Favorites website data, otherwise, the problematic data will remain.
  3. Select Delete.

Solution 4: Add Intuit on Internet Explorer's trusted sites

  1. Select the gear icon, then choose Internet Options.
  2. Select the Security tab, then choose Trusted Sites icon.
  3. Select the Sites button.
  4. Type in *
  5. Uncheck the Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone box.
  6. Select Add, then choose Close.

Solution 6: Lower UAC and repair Point of Sale

To lower UAC

  1. Open the Windows Control Panel, then select System and Security.
  2. Select Action Center.
  3. On the left pane, select Change User Account Control Settings.
  4. Slide the vertical bar down to Never notify, then choose OK.

To repair Point of Sale
