Budget by class does not tie to budget total

I’m glad to see you in the Community, wkibret.

Let me share information on why the data in your budget reports don’t match.

The information generated in your reports is based on the transactions entered into QuickBooks. Filtering your entries and dates also affects how the information is displayed in your budget by class and budget by month.

To rectify the issue, I suggest changing the date range on how you build the statements. This way, you’ll see the correct total amount.

  1. Open the report you’re working on.
  2. Go to the Dates section and click the drop-down to select the period you want to use.
  3. Press the Refresh button in the upper right for the changes to take effect.
  4. Perform the same process to the other report and then compare the data.

For more in-depth information into this process, feel free to browse this resource: Customize reports in QuickBooks Desktop. This resource will guide you on how to filter the transactions, memorize a report, set your preferences, etc.

To learn how to use your data to create budgets and forecasts, click here to access the article. From there, you’ll see the complete steps on how to set up a budget and forecast.

Don’t hesitate to post a comment if you have additional questions about your budget reports. I’ll be around to assist further. Wishing you and your business continued success.

It is not the date range issue for this.  When I run the report by Class and then when I change the totals at the top to be for the Full year, they do not tie.

Hi wkibret!

I understand that you wanted to make sure that your reports are accurate. Let me help you.

I agree with my colleague, Rasa-LilaM. You'll want to make sure that the filters are correct to show accurate data.

Also, let's update your QuickBooks Desktop and run the rebuild data tool to ensure that your file is not damaged which can cause issues.

Follow these steps on how to rebuild your file:

  1. Go to the File menu, select Utilities, then Verify Data.
  2. Wait for it to finish scanning your file.
  3. Go back to the File Utilities and select Rebuild Data.
  4. Follow the on-screen steps on how to create a backup file.
  5. Click OK when you get the message "Rebuild has completed".

You can also check this link: Customize reports in QuickBooks Desktop. This will show you more info on how to customize and save financial reports.

Please let me know if you have further concerns. I'll be here to help you!
