Changing chart of accounts numbers

Subaccounts won't have the same account number, but they will be assigned to the account that is giving you the error.  To see which accounts have subaccounts:

Accounting > Chart of Accounts

The slightly indented account names are subaccounts.

If you choose Edit under Action (far right), the Account popup window will appear, and there will be a checkmark in the box next to "is sub account."

I just want to add more information that might have caused the issue, amandapeoplesmemorial. 

It's possible that the account with the duplicate number was made inactive. This is the reason why you can't see it.

Let me help you check if that's the case. Here's how:

1. Go back to your Chart of Accounts.
2. Click the small Gear icon in the upper-right hand corner of your Chart of Accounts.
3. Check the box for Include Inactive.
4. Once done, go to the Search box and type in the account number. 

After finding it, click the drop-down list beside View register or Run report. Then, select Edit to change the account number.
