Hey there, brian14.

Thanks for reaching out here in the Community with your question about barcode scanning. I'd be glad to provide some additional insight on this topic.

As Rustler mentioned, barcode scanning isn't currently available in the Online version of QuickBooks. I think this would be a beneficial feature to offer business owners.

I'll be sure to pass this suggestion along to the appropriate channel. Doing so will alert the Product Development Team, letting them know barcode scanning has been requested to use in QuickBooks Online.

You can stay updated with news and product releases by visiting the QuickBooks Blog here: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/blog/.

Keep up the great work and let me know if you have any other questions. Take care.

How far is this option in the process?

I can't believe this simple feature is not available yet! It is so basic that it should be an emergency to be fixed. As pe me, it is not a new feature, it's a bug that should be corrected!

It works half way but there is a bug that makes the barcode scanner unusable, read this.

Somebody at QB , please fix it !!

Hi 1694Kalakaua.

The blog you've shared was helpful for manual entry. QBO currently doesn't have a direct connection to the barcode scanner. However, we've got you some third-party applications that have this kind of functionality and can sync with QBO. You can go to the Apps center in the left navigation and search for any barcode scanning apps.

In the meantime, I'll pass your feedback to our developers. It will be a useful reference for our future updates.

If you need anything else, please let us know. We're happy to help.

I recently upgraded from desktop to online plus. You would think a the quick books sales person would say that UPC/BARCODE scanning is not compatible . This is very frustarting and I feel that that I may have to go back to a desktop version. The only apps I am seeing is anywhere from $45 to $100 a month ? Why have Quick Books then ?

Why is this still not available for QBO? This thread was started in 2018. It is now 2020. This is something that users obviously want and NEED. It does not make sense that we(QBO users) cannot have the same functionality as desktop users. As a small business owner and ecommerce seller, barcode/inventory management is a CRUCIAL functionality. Please put pressure on the development team to specify a date or I and others will most likely be forced to find other

No native barcode support in one of the leading accounting packages.

This is clearly a management decision that has no intention of implementation.

I have followed this thread for years and this does not at all surprise me. Same old excuses - "add a feature request..." "We understand your frustration".... "It is something we will look at putting in a future release"

Working with programmers, I know this is extremely easy for a company the size of Quickbooks to implement. Save your time and choose another accounting package.

Has anyone used any bar code scanning app with QBO enough to want to recommend it? Does it work?

Quickbooks has suggested using an app for bar code scanning if running QBO - did not see if anyone was successful using any..

It is disappointing to see a lack of progress on this and other issues relating to QBO. You would almost think QBO is Intuits red-headed step-child :(

It blows my mind how QBO (which I think is a great product in itself) is pushed as a great and necessary tool for small business, yet simple things like barcoding is not available and that we must rely on third party apps to operate even for something as simple as payroll?!. What burns me is the lack of urgency to implement something your paying customers are requesting/or known issues resolution, yet when I had an incident where transferring funds to our account was delayed (my error, forgot to move money for my QBO payment) the very next day my account was locked until rectified albeit being a regular paying customer for years. Intuit moved on that so fast all you could see was dust!

Ranting aside, being a small company and relying on QBO for all things necessary to run a contracting business where all of our work is generated in the field, it is necessary for us to be able to barcode inventory in our work trailer to save the already endless work hours and streamline our operation...it is pretty sad when our wholesalers can offer barcoding (which unfortunately would lock us to one wholesaler, unless you really want ten different barcodes from ten different wholesalers on your bins). It would make more sense for my company to barcode my inventory on a given item and transfer that to a PO to choose whom we want to purchase that given item from at any given time, plus it would give us the ability to bill our customer's items used more easily.

2022, almost 2023 still no Barcode scanning?

competition offers more with the subscription paid at QBO.

Is there a phone number for technical questions about QR scanning?

F

It's absurd that QBO does not have the same inventory functionality as Quickbooks Desktop. I feel like I made a huge mistake moving to QBO. No Whsl field, No field for an EAN/UPC. Has anyone at QBO ever run a business? These key fields are critical for modern multi-channel businesses and scanning/shipping/receiving.

Hi, @fosterlohr.

We recognize the importance of having those inventory functionalities in QuickBooks Online (QBO) for a more efficient and smoother workflow. However, they aren't available in QBO as of now.

To help improve your experience with QBO, your valuable feedback will be shared with our product development team.

Here's how to send it:

1. Go to the Gear icon, then select Feedback.

2. Enter your product suggestions.

3. Hit Next to submit.

I'll add this supplementary article to help you set up your inventory after converting from QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) to QBO: Set up inventory after converting from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.

Just in case you're donating or giving away inventory items, you can check out this article to know how to track them: Track donated inventory in QuickBooks Online.

Feel free to return to this thread if you need further assistance managing your inventory. The Community space is always open. Stay safe!

Considering this is 3+ years on and there's still no solution, am I safe to assume there's no interest on the QBO team to fix this issue in QBO?

At a minimum, there should be field in the inventory that allow for Whsl and EAN/UPC.
