How to use serial number tracking?

I wanted to track my products with serial numbers so that i can backtrack them to the manufacturers and know exactly when i got them. I tried to find this feature but wasn't able to find it anywhere for quickbooks online.

With serial number tracking i will be able to backtrack my products from my customers to the manufacturers which can help me figure a solution for that particular product.

Hi v-tilescorner-co. Currently, serial number tracking is a feature only available in the QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise version.

I'm going to pass forward the fact that you have a desire for the feature to the developers for you. Also, if you'd like to read about the serial number tracking ability of QuickBooks Enterprise check out the article on using serial or lot numbers.

If you need anything else, don't hesitate to come back here in the community there will always be someone to help. Have a great rest of your day.

So if I have QB Ent can I track serialized inventory and set the serial number at time or receipt?

Hello there, @DP26

Thanks for joining us here in the Community. Let me provide some insights on when you can add a serial number in QuickBooks Desktop.

To answer your question, yes. QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise has a serial number tracking feature. When you turn on Advanced Inventory, you can make the serial number mandatory so that the system will ask you to enter one before you save the transaction.

Please follow these steps on how to turn it on:

  1. Go to the Edit menu and select Preferences.
  2. Select Items & Inventory, then click the Company Preferences tab.
  3. Tick the Advanced Inventory Settings, then select the Serial/Lot Numbers tab.
  4. Tap Enable Lot or Serial Numbers, then select Serial Numbers.
  5. From Show serial numbers on the section of the following form, choose what type of transactions you want to show the serial numbers.
  6. Set your preferences for warnings for all inventory and assembly items under Default settings for the inventory and assembly items section. Tap OK to save it.

Once done, you can now assign a serial number to your inventory. Additional steps and info you can check out this article: Use Serial or Lot Numbers.

If you're new to Advanced Inventory, you'll want to check this article: Set up Advanced Inventory. It shows the steps on how to multiple sites, sub-items, and more.

Let me know if there's anything else that I can help with serial number tracking. I'm always here to assist. Take care and have a great rest of the day!
