I along with over 50 over my other friends hate the way QB is going. Is there and alternative to the non cloud based quicbooks pro? No intuit?

Hello there, lamcgrath.

I heard your sentiments about the interface or how the system works in QuickBooks. Your opinion is important for us to help improve our products.

In the QuickBooks Community, we're unable to suggest or provide other alternative non-cloud-based products. Although, you can visit our website for other QuickBooks products that will suit your business. Otherwise, you'll want to look for a third-party app in our QuickBooks Desktop app store or other accounting software of your choice that meets your business needs.

I've also added this article where you can find helpful articles, video tutorials, and more on managing your QuickBooks account: Learn QuickBooks.

Keep me posted if you have other QuickBooks-related concerns. I'm always here to help you.

Do you and other 50 friends have QB Desktop Pro Plus?

Why do you “hate” them? Any specific concerns?

We may share an alternative to consider.

Add me to your list. 50 friends and one reader of your post. Our renewal date is June 1, so I have just over a month to convert to a new system.

Which QB Desktop year version do you have?

I'm also interested in an alternative to QB's blatant money grab. I want a desktop version that I can purchase for a reasonable price, much as I have been able to do in the past.

@John R1

Do you need to run any add-ons? e.g Payroll, Merchant Service?

J

John R1

I don't need add-ons, although I need the ability to upload my credit card statement from my bank. This ability disappeared from QB on June 1.

Right there with the group on planning to move to an Intuit competitor if that company gets rid of QuickBooks Desktop in an attempt for force people to accept QuickBooks Online that is an inferior product for my needs. A lot of my fellow business owners, their CPAs, and others are also looking to do the same. It is amazing this Intuit completely ignore what their customers actually want. Fine if some people prefer QuickBooks Online but do not push that product on everyone else that does not want it and will leave for products by Intuit competitors.

I'm leaving quickbooks after close to thirty years of using the desktop version. The price hike and forcible transition to online is a blatant money grab for a less versatile product. I always worried that this day would come because of the hassle of transitioning to a competitors software. But now I'm so pissed off, the transition is going to be a pleasure.

That's exactly how I feel.

You can use an importer tool. It's a $199 one time license and you can get $100 cashback to purchase it through a reseller.

If the manual procedure is too much trouble, you can use the trial version of QB Desktop 2022 as a workaround.

Yes - if anyone has recommendations for another software company that doesn't hate its customers I'd love to hear it. I would also like to find one that provides adequate, trained tech support like quickbooks used to before they shut it all down and moved to outsourced, untrained teenagers.

Literally any other software but intuit would be great to hear about. I've never seen a company eff up something so much - it's like that lady that ran yahoo into the ground bought intuit or something.

If you're still looking for a decent desktop-based program (not cloud based) with a trained support team, it's time to consider using an ERP (e.g Accumatica, Netsuite).

I can't find pricing for ERP online.

How much for an ERP bookeeping program comparable to QB Desktop?

Thanks!

R

Rafardrgz

Me too. My version is already expired but I refuse to be pushed online, want a perfect example of why not? The Texas Spectrum internet outage... How's that? I am continously looking for an alternative to QB, will not be forced to take my company file online.

@Rafardrgz

Which QB Desktop year version did you use? If you don't need to run any add-ons (e.g QB Payroll, QB Payment), you can use QB Desktop with a non subscription license.

D

During my last call with Quickbooks support in July 2004, I was informed the option to use QB Desktop with a non subscription license is no longer allowed. I’m paraphrasing here but their instructions were, buy an online subscription at a much higher cost, scrap the desktop version, comply with the new terms of use, or go eff yourself.

So I went and effed myself. After 30 years of using Quickbooks our long and useful relationship came to an end.

Did you find a alternative? It sounds like it would need a data conversion script!

So far, the best solution I have is to revive my old, very slow computer and just use that for QuickBooks although that computer is in really bad shape another solution would be to buy a new iMac computer for $1300. Keep my old one without ever updating the software. Within two years that would pay for itself with absolutely ridiculous subscription cost at QuickBooks.

If you can find somebody that does data conversion please let me know. Thanks.

Tom B Hines

I searched the web and found several desktop alternatives and conversion scripts. I don't know if it's appropriate to post it here.

Hi, I'm also here exploring alternatives. We are a small bookkeeping firm with about 20 current clients, most of which also have payroll. Several also use direct deposit for some employees. We currently use Desktop Accountant 2024 and have Enhanced Payroll for Accountants sub. The price doubled for payroll between 2022 & 2023 and will be doubling once again in October. The price is also increasing $200 more for the software. We just can't afford these continuous increases year after year. What alternatives could you (Fiat Lux) recommend for someone in our situation?

H

I am not Fiat Lux

I am on the same search

At this point, I am looking to find out if all the QB data which I have backed up to Excel can go into some other more affordable non-QB program

@Homespun

Secure your backup files and you can use the trial version to open them later if required on Mac.

You may consider to convert your data to QB Desktop 2020 Pro. Then use a 3rd party tool to export your data to XLS. It's $299 one time license and you can get $100 cashback to purchase it via a partner.
