I am trying to file with W-2 data with the state and using QuickBooks to generate the TXT file needed by the state. The Excel sheet opens up OK and I am able to select the W2 "add in" OK. However, during the interview portion, I am asked a question about the location and name of the file. I don't change anything but I am stuck on this page. If I select "next" or "back" nothing happens.
Anyone else having this issue? I updated all of my QuickBooks files manually and the problem remains.
Thanks
Mike Simmons

The name and location are where you want to save the file locally. You want it somewhere you can find it easily when you are logged in to your state site for uploading. I can think that if your selected file path does not exist you could not continue. But I do not know any other reason unless excel has a popup under your current view that needs a response. A good failsafe is to save it to your desktop
Thanks. The location of the file is not the issue. The problem appears to be with the "add-in". I have uninstalled and upgraded to a different version of Excel with the same results. There are no other boxes but I will recheck.
Hello there, Mike_Simmons.
It would be my pleasure to answer any questions you may have about the exported W-2 file from the system.
Once you go on with the interview process from the exported Excel file, it's still linked to QuickBooks Desktop. Since you've mentioned that nothing happens when you click Next or Back, we'll need to repair the source of the data which is the QuickBooks program.
For more information about how you can repair, I'm adding the article down below:
Once done, you can try exporting your state W-2 file again to check if the options from Excel will be responsive.
Please be sure to let me know if there's anything else I can do to help you succeed. You can reach out to me by posting a response below.
I went through these steps with Tech Support yesterday and the problem remained.
Thanks for the suggestion.

Hello Mike_Simmons,
We appreciate you calling in to get more help with your W-2 form. Let's try to do this manually.
Open up the W-2 file exported from QuickBooks Desktop. Go to the Excel application and open a new spreadsheet. Copy the information from the W-2 file, and paste it in to the new spreadsheet. Make sure that the columns and rows are copied correctly. Then, save it as Text (Tab delimited) type.
Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!
The instructions were followed but the state of NC was very picky and did not like the data in the text file even though it was copied directly from the original file generated by QuickBooks.
I spent hours trying to get this resolved and I wound up just entering the data manually from the spreadsheet generated by QuickBooks.
I hope this issue gets resolved for 2019 taxes but it didn't seem to work very well this year for my application.
I appreciate the effort.
