How do i print 1099s

I have printed the IRS copy of the 1099s.  Cannot find where to print the vendor copy and/or the employer copy of the 1099.

Best answer by Raywhite28

You need to purchase the 1099 forms. You can't print them on plain white paper. After you print the A copy, just reprint it with the proper form in the printer.

Purchase the 1099 forms?  Will the free ones from the IRS work?
January 24, 2020

I got the free ones from the IRS - I tore off the perforated tab at the left side so that all 5 sheets were loose, loaded them in the printer and told it to print 5 copies. I use a laser printer and it will not make an impression on the carbon paper, so printing on each sheet was necessary. When I am ready to send them off, I'll just staple them.

See attached tricks I used for my printer model HP color lazer jet CP2025.

You may have to try out various alignments to config for your printer type

Hi @3039356,

For the method of distributing the 1099 copies to your contractors, you have the option to choose USPS Mail or Email Recipient. You can also click on the Download Multiple PDF option if you want to send the copies to your contractors yourself.

As for the address that will be used for the USPS Mail option, this depends on the address you entered for the contractor. The same goes for the email address that will be used for the Email Recipient option.

@Ryan_M

Is your answer for QB Desktop?  Looks like Online to me, but the OP is asking about desktop.

Some of this info is incorrect.  ONLY copy A needs to be on the purchased RED forms or the free ones you can order from the IRS.  Copies B for your independent contractors can be printed on plain paper.  So can copies 1 and 2 for the state.  This is per the IRS, you can see right on their website.

I'm trying to print my 1099's to send to contractors, but quickbooks is printing out two contractors per sheet.....the form says not to cut or separate forms on this page, but I obviously can't send this to my individual contractors.  What do I do?

Hello there, @rachelb13.

Let me provide some information about the right process for printing the 1099s.

Our Payroll Tax Compliance Team is currently working with the IRS for the forms to be available. That’s the reason why the 2018 data won't show in the QuickBooks 1099 Wizard window.

Once we have them handy, QuickBooks will automatically fill in the information for your 1099s. I assure you we take this matter with the utmost urgency, so you can file the forms on time.

To help you stay on top of the year-end’s filing of forms, I’m adding links that can assist in preparing them. The other one outlines the key dates and deadlines when to send tax returns:

Let me know if you need more assistance with this. Thanks!

How do I complete and submit my 2020 1099.

Preparing and submitting your 1099 in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) is easy as 1 2 3, @Testimony.

QuickBooks helps you to save time on filing your 1099 forms. You can go to Print/E-file 1099 Forms to prepare and submit your 1099 form from there. Here's how:

  1. In your QBDT account, go to the Vendors menu and select Print/E-file 1099 Forms.
  2. Select 1099 Wizard, then click Get Started for the 1099 form you want to create.
  3. Choose the vendors that need 1099 form and select Continue.
  4. Review the vendor's information, then click Continue.
  5. Map the vendor payment accounts.
  6. Verify your payment information for exclusions and the vendors and amounts you're going to report.
  7. Click Continue, then select if you want to print 1099s or e-file.

I'm adding this article for more guidance: Create and file 1099s with QuickBooks Desktop.

You might also want to check out this article to learn what you need to do in QBDT if you need to file both a 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC: How to modify your chart of accounts for your 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC filing.

Please know that I'm just a reply away if you need any further assistance on preparing your 1099s. Wishing you and your business continued success.

  2. Choose Print 1099-NEC or Print 1099-MISC for the filing method.
  3. Specify the date range, then choose OK.
  4. Select all vendors you want to print the 1099s.
  5. Tap the Print 1099 button.
  6. Confirm your printer settings, then hit Print.

How to print the 4 part vendors 1099 after printing the red forms???

Hi there, Lbortles2021.

Thank you for visiting the QuickBooks Community. I'll be sharing details on how printing a 1099 form works with the new updates.

Intuit offers 1099 Forms (two per sheet) with a size of 8 1/2" x 11" and compatible double-window envelopes of 5 5/8" x 8 3/4". However, with the new tax year last 2021, form 1099-NEC was resized, and the height of the form was reduced to accommodate three forms on a page. That said, QuickBooks can only print 1099's three to a page and four forms on a page is currently unavailable.

On the other hand, QuickBooks has a time-saving feature to help you prepare your 1099s from the info you already have in your accounts. When preparing 1099 forms, if you choose not to e-file with Intuit, you'll want to print out copies to mail and complete your filing with the IRS, plus print and send a copy to each of your contractors.

For further details on how printing 1099's works in QuickBooks, you can click each article below.
