Why do reconciled transactions still show as uncleared in Books Review in QuickBooks Online, and how do I clear them?
When a transaction is genuinely reconciled (R in the register and on the reconciliation report) but still appears in the Books Review uncleared list, it's almost always because that transaction also posts to a second balance sheet account that hasn't been reconciled, and Books Review checks every balance sheet account it touches. The fix is to reconcile that offsetting account too, or to narrow Books Review with Select accounts so it only looks at the accounts you actually reconcile.
Why this happens
If a transaction hits a bank account and its other side lands on another balance sheet account (for example, a clearing account, a second cash account, or Owner's Draw from a journal entry), reconciling only the bank side leaves it flagged. Books Review looks at both accounts, so until the other balance sheet account is reconciled, the transaction keeps showing as uncleared even though the bank reconciliation is complete.
Fix option 1: Reconcile the offsetting balance sheet account
The official month-end review guidance is to reconcile bank accounts and other balance sheet accounts, not just the bank.
- Identify the second balance sheet account on the flagged transaction (open the transaction and check where the other side posts).
- Go to Settings (gear icon), then Reconcile, and choose that account.
- Reconcile it for the relevant period. For an account like Owner's Draw that has no statement, you can reconcile using an ending balance that makes the difference $0.00, so the entries clear.

Fix option 2: Narrow what Books Review checks
- Open Books review.
- Use Select accounts to choose only the accounts you actually reconcile.
- Apply, so Books Review stops listing items tied to balance sheet accounts you don't reconcile.
If a transaction really did revert to unreconciled
Separately, a reconciled transaction can revert to unreconciled if it was later edited. To confirm and fix the status, go to Settings, then Chart of accounts, then View register for the account, open the transaction, and set the checkmark column to R if it isn't already. Note the status cycles R to C to blank as you click. Details: Undo or remove transactions from reconciliations in QuickBooks Online. If a change threw off a balance, use Fix issues with your beginning balance for accounts you've reconciled before.
If you open one of the flagged transactions and tell us the two accounts it posts to, we can help you confirm which balance sheet account still needs reconciling.
