Question

--SPLIT-- showing in Purpose column

When matching a transaction to a receipt with multiple line items puts --SPLIT-- in the Purpose column. This makes it look like that transaction is split between Business and Personal. I have no control over Purpose when the transaction is still pending “says can’t be added when matching,” and I don’t see any options on the receipt side. Am I missing something here?

You’re not missing anything, and there’s nothing wrong on your end. QuickBooks Online (QBO) shows "Split" instead of a single label because the matched receipt contains multiple line items, which may fall under different categories or account types. This doesn't mean the transaction is divided between Business and Personal use. You also correctly noticed that you can't edit the Purpose while a transaction is pending, so you must wait for it to clear your bank first.

If you prefer to leave things as is, that's perfectly fine. However, if you want the transaction to display a single Business label, you can edit the receipt to group all items under one main business category before matching it. Alternatively, you can categorize the downloaded bank transaction as a single business expense and manually attach the receipt image instead of using the automated receipt matching feature.
