Question

Using quickbooks to submit quarterly reports to hmrc MTD

Im using the latest Intuit for sole traders. I can't see anything in the app that indicates when the report is sent or how to do it I have linked my HMRC account to Intuit but since then I've only had reminders from HMRC to submit my report.

To view the report status, sign in via a web browser. The mobile app does not support MTD submissions. Once successfully sent, the quarterly status changes from "Due" to "Submitted”. You will also receive an email receipt as your official audit trail.

Additionally, you must submit each quarterly update yourself. Linking QuickBooks and HMRC only establishes a secure connection. It does not automatically submit or send reports without your manual input.

Here’s how to submit:

  1. Open your browser on a computer or laptop and log into your QuickBooks Sole Trader account.

  2. Go to All apps and select Income Tax.
  3. Select View & Submit Obligations.
  4. Check your income and expenses for the period.
  5. Select Submit update.

Note that if you have no income or expenses to report for a quarter, you still need to submit a nil update by the deadline.
