I have automatic mileage turned on  on my phone app but how do I manually enter mileage from January to April before I started using Quick books.  Tried to manually enter but it won't let me get past the to address field.

Hello tesscom,

I hope you're enjoying QuickBooks Self-Employed so far and the ease of having the automatic mileage turned on. Luckily, you can also manually enter mileage as needed to make sure you have all the ground covered.

Read Manually add mileage in the mobile app to learn how to do this on your phone. If you'd like to do it while logged into a browser, the steps are similar. Follow along as they're outlined below.

  1. Click Trips from the left-hand menu.
  2. Click the Add trip button (Tip: The down arrow gives you more options, such as setting up a vehicle and importing data from MileIQ and Google).
  3. Enter the date, location, purpose, and kilometres.
  4. Hit Save

It's as simple as that. Do this for the trips you need to enter and you'll be good to go. If you're having trouble with it, feel free to get in touch with QuickBooks Self-Employed's dedicated support agents through the Help feature in the app or by filling out the contact form on our Contact Us page.

I hope that helps!

How do you export your detailed mileage log for the year? When I go to the detailed listing for last year there is an icon to email the report, but when I click through it does nothing when I try to email the report. Is this just a bug with the site or can your not export the detailed mileage log?

Hi there yenita,

Great question. I'll do what I can to help you get your mileage information. I know it can be useful to keep track of it outside of the program and have it for your records.

When visiting the Trips tab when logged in via browser, there's the option to email the listed trips, as you've described. It may take a few minutes for the email to come through, but when it does, it includes an Excel file with a breakdown of your trips. The columns include Date, Type, Trip Purpose, Vehicle, Start Address, End Address, Distance, Deduction, and Logging Method.

If you're not seeing that email, I recommend starting by double-checking the spelling of the email you typed in. I know sometimes my fast fingers can make for spelling mistakes. It happens!

Another troubleshooting step is to clear your browser's cache and cookies. Take a look at the How do I clear my browser cache and temporary Internet files? to learn how.

In the app, follow these steps to send the log to yourself. It'll have the exact same file.

  1. Click the small Gear icon at the top left.
  2. Choose Settings from the menu.
  3. Go to Reports.
  4. Pick Mileage log.
  5. Confirm the Time Frame, Type, and Email.
  6. Click Send.

To do more troubleshooting, please get in touch with the dedicated QuickBooks Self-Employed team using the same Contact Us link I left for tesscom above. They'll be able to help you get back on track.

Best of luck!
