I am trying to make wall signs to tag our inventory bins. I need to put the barcode on the label but it won't let me copy the barcode. I tried using excel but I cant seem to get it to scan from there. Is there a work around for this that I am missing. Or how do I do it.

A pleasant day, @angel511. I have information here that will help ensure the printed barcode in your inventory items label can be scanned.

There are several reasons why the barcode isn't working. These are:

  • The equipment isn't suited to your bar codes.
  • Your scanner isn't being operated properly.
  • The barcode labels aren't suited to your application or environment.

To fix this, ensure the barcode is imported and set up correctly in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). Also, you must log in as an admin and back up your company file before you import.

Then, you should have created a custom field to track additional items for the barcode. Here's how:

  1. Change the mode to Switch to Single-user Mode from the File section.
  2. Go to Lists. Then, pick Item Lists, double-click any item, and select Custom fields.
  3. Choose Define Field. On a new line enter the label name. You can use Barcode 2 as an example.
  4. In the label field, click Use and OK.

Check out this article for detailed steps: Set up, and use barcode scanning in QuickBooks Desktop.

If your setup is accurate, you can follow these steps to print the barcode correctly:

  1. Go to File and select Print Forms.
  2. Choose Labels.
  3. Under Item Barcodes, select the item with the barcode you want to print.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Enter the number of copies you want to print.
  6. Click Print

If the issue persists after printing them, I recommend contacting QBDT Contact Support to help you find the root cause of your concern, and ensure that your barcode will work the next time you scan it.

Also, I've got you this helpful article for ideas about other ways to utilize your inventory management: Set up and use the Warehouse Manager App.

Tag me if there’s anything else you need assistance with barcode scanning of your inventory items. I’ll be around to lend a hand. Keep safe, and have a good one.

We have all the bar codes set up already in Quickbooks desktop. The mobile scanner is also set up which was a complete nightmare to do. Now I just need to get my barcodes out of QB so I can make bin labels for our products. See image below. That is what I am trying to create.
